Message from the Executive Director
Happy New Year! I am delighted to welcome you
to the Phil for an exciting weekend of music. What
could be better than kicking off the new year with
a concert of the lush orchestrations and romantic
melodies of Burt Bacharach?! Over 50 years,
he wrote the soundtrack for our times, packing
73 Top-40 hits into his songbook. And we’re thrilled to have several of
Broadway’s brightest stars here with us today to sing these memorable
hits. Be sure to read all about these talented guest artists on pages 10-12
in this program book.
Following our Bacharach concerts, we’ll return to Memorial Hall with
two concerts in March, starting with Hocus Pocus: Magical Music on March
10. This one-hour concert is perfect for audiences of all ages when the
orchestra performs music from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and
The Sorcerer’s Apprentice from Fantasia. Be sure to arrive early to meet the
musicians at our instrument demonstration, which begins at 2 pm.
On March 23, you’ll be among the first to hear our newest commission
honoring the living story of the Wampanoag nation. Great Collaborations
brings together Wampanoag historian and storyteller Jonathan James
Perry and the Community Spirit Singers, narrating Tonya Wind Singer’s
richly layered orchestral tone poem with a big drum circle finale. It’s
going to be magnificent; I hope you’ll join us!

Lastly, I’d like to ask for your input. Soon, we will issue a programming
survey, seeking your invaluable input on our concerts for seasons to
come. Please watch your email for the survey, arriving at the end of the
month.
Thank you for supporting the Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra. I look
forward to seeing you at many more concerts this season.
