Honoring our Healthcare Heroes
The Phil is proud to invite healthcare workers from Beth Israel Deaconess
Hospital–Plymouth to our Beethoven concerts as our special guests as a small
gesture of thanks for their extraordinary service throughout the pandemic.
“We owe these dedicated healthcare workers our ongoing gratitude for their
selfless and tireless work, especially during these past two years,” said Phil
Executive Director, Kim Corben. “We hope they will be able to sit back and relax
for a couple of hours while they’re immersed in the beauty of Beethoven’s music.”
As the region’s leading provider of healthcare, Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–
Plymouth serves more than 250,000 residents in Plymouth and Barnstable
counties. The hospital was founded in 1899, when a group of leading citizens
from Plymouth recognized the need to build a hospital to serve residents. They
approached retail tycoon, philanthropist, and summer resident Eben Jordan,
of the Jordan Marsh Company, and he donated $20,000 to build what was to
become Jordan Hospital. In December 1903, Jordan Hospital opened its doors to
the first patients and has remained a community hospital ever since.
In January 2014, Jordan Hospital joined the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center
family of hospitals and became Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Plymouth. As a
private, not-for-profit hospital, they treat all patients, regardless of ability to pay.
