The G. Herbert Clarke Award

The Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra was founded in 1913 by Kingston
violin teacher G. Herbert Clarke. This award, named in his honor, celebrates
the work of individuals who have gone above and beyond to support the Phil
and to help make the orchestra what it is today. This award was presented
on September 11, 2025, at the Phil’s Bravo Breakfast.

        The Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra is
honored to award the 2025 G. Herbert Clarke
Award to Paul Jean, former Board Chair of the
        Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra, in recognition
of his exceptional service to our orchestra and
        organization.
Paul Jean served on the Plymouth Phil board from 2011 to 2022, serving
as our Board Chair from 2017 to 2022. During his tenure, he provided
invaluable guidance in strategic growth, marketing presence and community
engagement. Paul Jean worked closely with a dedicated staff and Board of
Directors to ensure the Philharmonic remained a vibrant cultural anchor for
        Plymouth and the South Shore.

Coming to the Phil with a genuine love for our orchestra, Paul Jean writes,
“Our son Christopher sang in the first children’s chorus created by the
Plymouth Phil. At the time, Cathy and I were subscribers to Boston’s Handel
and Haydn Society. When we heard the Phil, we were so impressed that we
decided to start attending Phil concerts and reduce our H&H subscription.”

“I so enjoyed and appreciated working closely with Paul Jean ever since
he became connected to us,” says music director Steven Karidoyanes.
“During his tenure as Board Chair, which is a volunteer position, Paul
committed himself fulltime to steer us successfully through the pandemic
lock down and its aftermath. With his leadership skills, his Bridgewater
State University connections and his experiences with the Denterlein public
relations agency, Paul brought his whole self into passionately leading us.”
Karidoyanes concludes, “We are so grateful to Paul for all he has done over
many years — on behalf of, the betterment of and, with no exaggeration,
        the survival of our organization.”
Thank you, Paul Jean, for your commitment to the orchestra and our entire
        Plymouth Phil community!
