Guest Artist
Anne Howarth
Anne Howarth was appointed Principal Horn of
the Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra in 2005,
having first joined our orchestra as third horn in
2002. She is Assistant Professor of Horn at Boston
Conservatory and an in-demand orchestral and chamber musician in the
Boston area.
In addition to the Plymouth Phil, Ms. Howarth is also the Principal Horn of
the Lexington Symphony. She has performed with the Boston Symphony
Orchestra, Boston Pops, Portland Symphony Orchestra and Rhode Island
Philharmonic. She is a founding member of the mixed-instrumentation
chamber group Radius Ensemble, a senior member of the wind quintet
Vento Chiaro, and a core member of Juventas New Music Ensemble. A
strong proponent of new music, she has commissioned several pieces,
including “Connect All. We All Connect.,” by Oliver Caplan - a reversable
mediation on the effects of live performance - and “Canta La Sal,” a trio
for horn, cello, and piano by Judith Shatin. During the Covid-19 pandemic
shutdown, she explored enhanced approaches to solo performing,
combining horn playing with lighting and technology elements to produce
digital content for livestreaming and archived viewing.
A native of the Detroit area, Anne Howarth holds undergraduate degrees
in both Horn Performance and Environmental Studies from Oberlin
College and Conservatory, and earned her Master of Music degree in
Horn Performance at New England Conservatory.
Anne Howarth is deeply curious about the ways in which shared
musical experiences forge connections, invite deeper dialogue, and
inspire contemplation. Fueled by a passion for collaboration, she brings
expressiveness, creativity and delight to her performances. We are so
fortunate to have her as a cherished member of our orchestra!
