“What’s Eating You 2?” Mothmageddon
CHAPTER 9
Moth-Proof Your Clothes and Wardrobe
Besides the continuous use of our Acana / Modelli Moth Killers there are a number of other steps we recommend you take to help minimise the risk of moth damage.
One of them is to be ever vigilant. The unfortunate truth is once you have had moths in your home you are very likely to have them again and again. If you have a beehive or wasps nest in your property it is reasonably straightforward to have them removed with professional help. Not so with moths as they do not swarm – they tend to be far more solitary. So even if you get rid of some moths there will be more coming at some stage.
Sadly you cannot become complacent about moths. You may think that you have resolved your moth problem because you haven’t seen a moth flying around your home for months but that’s not the case. The eggs that the female lays can stay in larvae stage for up to two years before they hatch and begin munching through your treasured belongings.
So here are a few more helpful suggestions:
Be disciplined with your wardrobe. Easy to say, we know, but harder to do! Nevertheless try to only keep the garments you actually wear in your main wardrobe. Keep a space of 2 to 3 cms between each garment. When the larvae hatch and begin to eat they do not have wings and therefore are unable to make the journey from one garment to the next. If all your clothes are rammed into the wardrobe with no space between each garment, you just provide young moths the opportunity to inflict the maximum damage on your clothes.
