The culture of the Kingdom of Cambodia has evolved since ancient times,
due to an influx of Brahmanical and Buddhist faiths from Indian shores.
So, not surprisingly there’s plenty of similitude in language and practice
and we were greeted with ‘Namakha’ or welcome , the equivalent of our
‘Namaste’, as we landed at Siem Reap, to reach Angkor Wat -the largest
temple complex in the world!
An UNESCO World Heritage site, the sprawling temple complex from the
12th Century AD, is the perfect amalgam of Hindu and Buddhist
representations. The reflection of the temple in the water, at the break of
dawn, draws ace photographers from around the world to capture ’ the
moment’!
Cambodia has also been the gory venue of the brutal Civil War in the
1970s.
A walk through the War Museum in Siem Reap, is a chilling reminder of
the death and devastation, and the ‘Killing Fields’ of the dictator Pol
Pot, scream of barbaric acts against the human race. A blot on
humanity ,in the land where two of the oldest religions flourished!
