The Junior season in review.
The 2014-2015 season saw Jonathan O’ Mahony and Val Keenan take charge of the
Wanderers junior team. They moulded a squad from stalwarts like Tommy Cronin, Pa
Brady, Dave Walsh, Farrell O’ Connor, Jimmy Griffin and Damo Brady with talented new
signings in the form of Andy Hogan, James Stoat and goalkeeper Sean McDermott, to
mount an assault on the League 2 title.
The switch of Ian Stack from senior to junior was to prove a very significant move early
in the season as he went on to joint top score(along with James Stoat) with fifteen goals
in just sixteen games played.
Damien Brady and Jimmy Griffin waded in with thirteen and eleven goals respectively to
produce an impressive haul of eighty five from the squad over the season. The season
began with a good showing in the League Cup followed by an even more impressive run
in the F.A.I. Junior Cup. This run took the team to a fifth round encounter with Moyross
United in Limerick. The defeat to Moyross was no disgrace as the Limerick outfit pro-
gressed to the last eight and were unlucky to lose on penalties to North End United.
In the league campaign Wanderers led the way for almost the entire season but an
injury time goal away to fiercest rivals Ringmahon Rangers ultimately meant settling for
second place behind the Mahon outfit. This finish did of course secure the number one
goal of promotion and the chance to compete in League 1 for the coming season.
The team was led on the field by inspirational captain Dave Walsh while the fine perfor-
mances of young James Stoat saw him pick up the player of the year award and
promotion to the senior squad for the coming season. Tommy Cronin bowed out with a
well-deserved junior clubman of the year award.
