East Cork Choral Society are 40 years old this year.

    They have chosen to perform Bach’s St. Matthew Passion as part of their celebra-
    tions.
    The powerful music uses three choirs and double orchestra and  is one of the most
    moving ways of hearing the Passion story.
    The performance is on Saturday April 13th in St. Patrick’s Church, Lower Glanmire
    Road at 8.00p.m.  The Choral Society will be joined by the Seafield Singers from
    Dublin, St. Patrick’s Church Choir, East Cork Orchestra, soloists, Elizabeth Hilliard,
    Dominica Williams, Adrian Thompson and Cork’s own Eoghan Desmond, and with
    Colin Nicholls completing 36 years as conductor.
    Tickets, €20, are available from Pro Musica, the Sacristy at St. Patrick’s and Society
    members.

                     The Spike Island 5km returns for 2019!
    This truly unique 5km is unlike any in Ireland if not
    the world and its on sale now! What other run starts
    and ends in a 200 year old Fortress and takes in a
    former prison island with amazing harbour views!
    The SPIKE ISLAND FORTRESS 5KM takes place on
    Saturday April 13th, with boats departing at 17.00
    and 18.00. Strictly limited places due to ferry ca-
    pacity, early booking is advised.

    Your journey begins with a short and scenic ferry
    journey across Cork Harbour. Once on Spike Island
    our guides will meet the first boat at the pier and give a short tour to the Fortress,
    to give you a sense of the history and mystery that make this island and event so
    special. Runners on the second boat will be taken straight to the Fort, and once all
    runners are inside and registered the race will begin at 18.45pm approx.
    The route will take in a lap of the inner Fortress, a lap around the outer slope with
    its stunning harbour views, around the outer island with its abandoned village and
    houses before heading back towards the Fortress and around the harbour views
    once more and inside for the 5km finish line.

    Drinks and fruit will be available on completion and all finishers get a unique Spike
    Island medal and their time within a few days. There are also prizes for the first
    male and female and 2nd and 3rd male and female. Return boats will be at 19.30
    and 20.15 approx, please allow time for slight tidal delays. Book now to avoid disap-
