Cruise News with Jackie Coakley
It’s May which means Cruise season is really kicking off
in Cobh. We all love to see the Liners of all shapes and
sizes coming to Cobh and it also means it’s time for
me to get onboard with some of my loyal customers,
invited guests and competition winners. Cobh is such
a popular port and our Cruise Ambassador volunteers
and our Cobh Animation ladies do a fantastic job meet-
ing and greeting people off the liners.
Since moving down to East Cork Travel in Midleton I
have been inundated with enquiries and it really is be-
coming apparent that Cruise holidays are increasing in
popularity and more and more Irish holidaymakers are choosing to Cruise.
There is nothing more rewarding for me than when I receive a message from
someone who has never cruised before about how much they loved it and can’t
wait to go again.
There are now so many destinations to choose and different types of Cruise
ships....whether you are a couple looking for that Dream vacation in the Caribbean
or a family celebrating a big Birthday in the Med or a solo - traveller looking to see
the sights of Europe with other like minded travellers, I would highly recommend to
give it a try.
If you need advice or suggestions you can find me in East Cork Travel, Midleton on

LUSITANIA COMMEMORATION - 104th ANNIVERSARY
The commemoration of the 104th anniversary of the sinking of the Lusitania will
take place in Cobh on Sunday 5th May, 2019. Organised by Cobh Tourism the
ceremonies are fitting memorials to all those who lost their lives on that fateful war
time voyage.
The ceremony commences at the Lusitania graves in the Old Church Cemetery
just outside Cobh at 2.30pm. Following prayers, musical honours by the Comodore
Choir and the laying of wreaths, the proceedings move to Cobh Town Centre.
A Parade led by a Colour Party from the O.N.E. and representatives of the Royal
Naval Association and other maritime and historical groups will leave from the Old
Town Hall on Lynch’s Quay at 3.15pm approximately to the Lusitania Peace Memo-
rial in Casement Square.
Further ceremonies will take place here including a wreath laying ceremony.
Members of the public are encouraged to attend.
