Second Boat for Cork City Missing Persons Search and Recovery
(CCMPSAR)
The Cork City Missing Persons Search and Recovery (CCMPSAR) voluntary group recently took
ownership of a second boat. The 5.8m RIB will be based at the Port of Cork City Marina and is
fitted with side scan sonar, which will greatly assist in river searches.
CCMPSAR Chairman Edwin O’Sullivan said: ‘We named the boat ‘The Nora Flynn’ after the
late Nora Flynn, chosen by Nora’s nephew Dinny Kiely, who is also one of our longest serving
volunteers. It is a great honour and a fitting tribute to name the boat after Nora and to also
have so many of her family present on the day of the launch.’
The RIB was generously funded by a number of supporters such as Port of Cork, Irish Main-
port Holdings, Lehane Environmental & industrial Services Ltd, CH Marine, Whelan Stores,
Inver and Jotun (Ireland) Ltd.

on board.
The lifeboat with Aidan O’Connor in command and Norman Jackson, Georgia Keating and
Molly Murphy met with the incoming casualty boat off Graball Bay some 12 minutes later. Two
of the crew transferred to the fishing boat to administer casualty care to the injured crewman
who was in severe pain from a suspected broken arm and a head injury.
As it was deemed too dangerous due to the sea state and too painful for the casualty to
be transferred back to the lifeboat, the fishing vessel continued to Crosshaven under es-
cort before the injured man was handed into the care of Paramedics for transfer to hospital.
Crosshaven RNLI Deputy Launch Authority, Hugh Mokler commented, “The volunteer crew
responded quickly and made the casualty, who was in a great deal of pain as comfortable as
possible until they were able to hand over to the Ambulance service. Today, it can be said,
