U16 Division 1 Result: Springfield Ramblers 2-3 Crosshaven
A terrifically entertaining game of ball this morning as Springfield
Ramblers U16 1st Div side lost out narrowly to Crosshaven at John
Murphy Memorial Park. An early goal saw the visitors take their
lead into the half-time break, but not after Springfield had two
genuine and very clear penalty decisions, a stonewall trip, and a
further handball, go against them.
Springfield dominated possession throughout the first forty and
were they to capitalise on the abundance of goal-scoring opportunities they created,
the half-time scoreline might have looked similar to a cricket scoreboard.
Crosshaven took to the dressing rooms for the break and failed to return after sev-
eral blows of the whistle as the home side waited patiently. When they did return
the referee made the decision to abandon the game, however, after negotiations
with both managers, the second half got underway.
The visitors made it 2-0 minutes into the second half but the home-side stepped
up with Luke Finnigan and Josh Furmedge netting in quick succession to level the
scoreline. Once again, Springfield dug in and put severe pressure on the visitors,
however, with just ten minutes remaining Crosshaven got the match winner. The
Springfield heads never dropped and they were unlucky not to at least equalise, if
not win it themselves in the last few minutes.
An absolutely memorable game of ball and a great example of what Schoolboys
Football is all about. Would recommend anyone to get up and out to watch a game
over the weekend. You’ll not be disappointed.

Buttevant 1- 2 Springfield (AOH Cup 2nd Round)
The Cobh men travelled to Buttevant for their second round AOH
Cup tie. It was Springfield who opened the scoring in an even
enough first half with natural born finisher Dean Keating getting the
first goal of the tie.
Springers doubled their lead early in the second half through
striker Glenn Kavanagh before the home team pulled one back but it wasn’t enough
for Buttevant as the scoring stayed like that until the final whistle. Buttevant out,
Springfield progress to the third round.
Best for Springfield on the day were Keating, Chucky McGrath and Shane Geasley.
The cup road trip continues next weekend against Cathedral Celtic away in the FAI
Junior Cup.
