required by the job. None have disabilities that would get
in the way.
• They are not diet freaks, though some take regular steps
to stay fit.
• All have completed high school, and a few have had a little
college.
• Some have been in the military and received some elec-
tronics training there.
• Others have learned something of electricity or electron-
ics through home-study courses or while working in dad’s
shop.
• Only a few have had appliance training before joining this
company.
• Their interests include sports (football, bowling, basket-
ball, fishing), TV, gambling, and ham radio.
• They don’t jog or play tennis, golf, or chess.
• They are interested in computers, though many of the
older ones are skeptical about their ability to learn much
about programming.
• They are likely to have mechanically-oriented hobbies.
These include ham radio, auto or motorcycle repair, and
repairs around the house. They are all mechanically
inclined and can handle hand tools with ease.
• They are not likely to read for pleasure, though they are
not poor readers. They’d rather talk about “the trouble
that got away” than read.
