National Youth Commission
The National Youth Commission into youth employment and transitions is conducting hearings
across the nation. Echuca Moama was the location for their first regional hearing on 13 May. CCLLEN
contacted stakeholders and partners to participate, and many responded, either with presentations or
focus groups. Presenting to the Commission was relaxed and comfortable, even though the hearings
are a formal, structured process. The Commissioners made sure to put people at ease.
The range of presenters were able to illustrate the issues and solutions in our part of rural Australia.
Presenters were from Echuca Specialist School, Committee for Echuca Moama, CCLLEN, Careers
Teachers Network, CVGT – Transition to Work, Echuca Moama Beacon Foundation, Bendigo TAFE
and Campaspe Shire Council. Focus groups were held with TAFE VCAL students, Echuca College
Gateway students, Koorie Youth Programs providers and the Shire’s Youth Advisory Group. Thank you
to all who participated.
The Commissioners commented on the richness of the presentations in Echuca and indicated that the
focus groups went very well. The Commission is providing progress reports during the inquiry process
and will have a final report in mid 2020. You can find out more on their website www.nycinquiry.org.au
