The party was splendid and laughter could be heard as
the princess asserted her demands on her humbled
king. Time passes and the table now askew as the
evening comes to a close.
The tiara put away and the royal gown now replaced
with princess pajamas. A smudge of blue remains as
her heavy eyes begin to close. A gentle kiss on her
delicate cheek, covers tucked gently to her side, a
loving gaze and then he turns to leave.
”Daddy”, she whispers, “we forgot to dance”. Once
again the grin on his face forcing the squint of his eyes,
“I thought you’d never ask”.
In his arms he held her, the little princess. His extended
shadow drifting to and fro, rocking effortlessly. Slightly
raised above a whisper, the sweet sound of a father’s
song, aloft in the cool night air. A song, a dance, a
slow, sweet dance, that only a father can understand,
when holding the one that holds his heart…and he
sings…
