VINHO VERDE
DOURO VALLEY
Portugal's advantage is its isolation,
which has kept its inheritance of
indigenous varieties intact and largely
unaffected by international varietals
and styles. It also has an extraordinary
range of climates - rainfall varies
enormously; the Vinho Verde region
in the far northwest, famous for light,
dry whites, is one of the wine world's MADEIRA
wettest, while the Douro Valley to its
immediate south east is one of the
driest during the crucial growing
season. The island of Madeira is sub-
tropical, characterized by hot and
humid summers and mild winters.

VINHO VERDE
The verde or 'green' in Vinho Verde refers not to the color of the wine, but to its youth - the wines
are all designed to be drunk when still young and fresh. The more concentrated examples bear a Casa Do Valle
