Antídoto
If it weren’t for a young French
winemaker, Bertrand Sourdais,
Soria might still be unknown.
Bertrand first brought Soria to
light with his award-winning
Atauta, a village with cooler
temperatures than the rest of
Ribera and an abundance of sand
that has kept Phylloxera away for
the past 150 years, leaving most
vines ungrafted. When Atauta RIBERA DEL DUERO
was sold in 2009, Bertrand D.O. Ribera del Duero is located in Castilla y León, roughly 2 hours north of Madrid. When it
created Antídoto, Spanish for
‘antidote’ - Ribera’s great achieved D.O. status in 1982, there were only 9 wineries and most wine was sold in bulk. Today
bargain. it is home to 270 wineries and many of Spain’s most noteworthy wines. Tempranillo, known lo-
cally as ‘Tinto Fino’ makes up 95% of the region’s plantings. The region is divided by its name-
sake, the River Duero, and the sheltering effects of the Sierra de la Demanda and Sierra de Gua-
darrama mountain ranges creates an extreme climate of dry, hot summers followed by long, harsh
Marqués de Velilla winters.
Established in 1985 by the
Segovian family. The year of 1989
brought the purchase of
the Monte Villalobón estate
outside the small village of La
Horra in central Ribera del
Duero and in 1996 the move to Bodegas Antídoto
the Estate became permanent. 370 rarewineco.com
