Detail from ‘Janet Clarke Hall’ – artist Trent Crawford (b.1995)

                Our back cover features detail from a newly commissioned painting (‘Janet Clarke Hall’) now hanging in the Dining Hall.
               Its creator, emerging street artist Trent Crawford built up the image by individually hand cutting and spray-painting 25 layers
                of transparent acetate; printing each layer on top of each other with one of six individual tones of paint to form the image.

                  ‘Being family friends with the Principal’, he explains, ‘I experienced Janet Clarke Hall from time to time as a child.
                              At this age I did not completely understand what it was that Janet Clarke Hall did;
                            all I understood was that the building had a sense of prestige and higher education to it,
                                      hosting a variety of people much older and cooler than I was.
                           This piece aims to display the inspirational and overwhelming sense of memory and feeling
                                   that this historic building can have on the people who experience it.’
