The Fayetteville Press Interview with Pastor Allen S. Mclauchlin of

New Life Bible Church and Christian Academy

This is an interview we have been seeking for some time; Pastor Allen McLauchlin is one of the most if not the most respected
Pastor in our area. His knowledge and understanding of Scripture is legendary. He is one of the foremost Bible teachers in America.
       His Bible studies are global.
Fayetteville Press: Thank you Dr. McLauchlin for granting us this interview.
Dr. Mclauchlin: Oh, it’s all my pleasure; I have always been a reader of FP and understand the vital part it plays in our
community. JJ Jones is a local icon who I met years ago on a ping pong table at Ft. Bragg
FP: We appreciate those comments, Dr. Mclauchlin, before we talk about your church and academy; tell us a little bit about
       you, the person
Dr. MC: Thanks for the opportunity, born and reared in Western Cumberland County, attended Anne Chesnutt HS, Graduated
From Fayetteville State University, class of 70, married, to Dr. Norma T. Mclauchlin, both Viet Nam Era Veterans, one son, Scotty,
daughter in law, Angel, one granddaughter Haven, and two grandsons Eden and Khari and one step grandson Trey; Many relatives
in this area, Blues, McLeans, Evans, McLauchlins.
FP: Have you done further studies.
Dr. Mac: I received a master’s degree from East Carolina University; A Doctorate in Theology from International Bible
College and Seminary, I have done additional studies at John Hopkins University and NC State. My wife, CEO of the Church and
Academy, also has a Bachelor of Science from Fayetteville State University a Master of Arts Central Michigan University, with an
MBA from Virginia Tech and a Doctorate of Education from North Carolina University.
FP; Great, Let us turn our attention to New Life Christian Academy and Prep School (NLCA&PS) How did it get started.
Dr. Mac: It has always been a dream of ours to have a school associated with the church to combine the best of these two
institutions. In 1997, our church, New Life Bible decided to launch New Life Christian Academy and Prep School. Even though we
were small, and the task was expensive, we felt like if not us who and if not now when. It was our calling from the Lord. We are the
first African American K-3-12 grade private school in Fayetteville.
            FP: What is NLCA&PS goal
Dr. Mac: Since 1997, our goal has been and always will be to not lose one child to the world. NLCA&PS mission is to give each
student a solid education. NLCA&PS commitment to parents has been to teach the children in a Christian atmosphere, training
them in God’s Word. NLCA&PS believes in the three dimensions of life, (1)Knowledge: children must learn to think carefully,
(2)Understanding: Children ;must learn to act responsibly, (3)Wisdom: Children must live wisely. NLCA&PS wants our students to
be challenged academically, confident socially, prepared physically, established spiritually in God’s word and ready to lead. Three
institutions go into developing successful citizens, the family, the church and school. When these three work together, the results Kyle Baldwin
       are a well-rounded individual.
FP: Is NLCA&PS a state approved school.
Dr. Mac: Yes, we are NC state approved, all subjects. We have been operating for more than a quarter of a century, 28 years.
Educating thousands. We have an outstanding staff.
Fp: I know establishing a school is very expensive. Probably many churches much larger would not have considered it.
Dr. Mac: Yes, very expensive to say the least, however, if God guides, He will provide. Every church primary mission is to
spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. That being said, I think churches can specialize in different areas to accomplish this mission.
Some in reaching out to the homeless, others go into prisons, still others work in the political or social areas. However, God led us
       in education.
FP: What advice would you give other churches wanting to start a private Christian School.
Dr. Mac; Make sure it is what God wants you to do, there are different manifestations but the same Lord. One water, one plant
but God gives the increase. Education is too serious, and our kids are too important for some one to venture into this ministry
without being led by God. Make sure its your calling and not just another notch you desire to put on your Bible.
FP: What has been your greatest thrill?
Dr. Mac: There have been so many I do not know where to begin, of course the launching of our Academy; conducting chapel
every week. Having a small child asking me, “are you God”. Our boys’ basketball team winning several National and State
Championships. Seeing students working together. Watching my son graduate from our Academy, or talking to a former student Yaren Gonsalez Mendez
last year who is pursuing his Master’s degree, or having a former student bring their child to enroll. There are so many, overall
       watching kids develop
FP: How many students have attended NLCA&PS? How many are enrolled today
Dr. Mac: Thousands, over the years which included summer school students from Cumberland and Hoke County. We have
approximately 120 students presently enrolled, including day care,.
            FP: How are you funded?
Dr. Mac: By tuition, paid by parents and for those families that are eligible, NC Opportunity Scholarship ( https://
k12.ncseaa.edu/opportunity-scholarship). Wich is a good opportunity to have your child’s education funded by the state at a
great private school, small-class size and caring instructors. However, our number one sponsor is the members of New Life Bible
       Church.
            FP:  Do most of the students attend your church;
Dr. Mac: No, most of our kids attend other churches in Cumberland and Hoke Counties.
FP: Take us inside your school and share with us a typical dday:Dr. Mac: No day is typical when you are dealing with
children, but I will do my best. First of all, we are K-2- through 12th grade. Our doors open at 6am for those parents who take their
children to our pre-school. Classes for kindergarten through 12 grade begin at 8 am. All classes begin with prayer and Scripture
                                                               th
and end with prayer. We are year-round school, our school year begins late July and goes to late May. We are nine weeks on and Mikhi Nobes
3 weeks off. Our goal is to give each student a safe environment free from bulling, fights and other negative distractions so they
can develop to their fullest God given potential. The Bible says train or teach a child His way. Of course, His way refers to God, but
it also could refer to each individual child. Every child’s way is different and what we try to do here at New Life is to reach the child
       where they are.
FP: I noticed when I arrived on Campus, that there is a building under construction.
Dr. Mac: Yes, two years ago our church education building was destroyed by fire, we are currently rebuilding a brand-new
state-of-the-art multipurpose building ready for occupancy next school year that will accommodate more students. ALL TO THE
       GLORY OF GOD
FP. What are some of you future plans.
Dr. Mac, To continue doing what we are doing, teaching so students are well prepared for life academically, spiritually, and
socially. To establish other athletic program, girls flag football, golf classes, Chess teams, robotics and much more.
FP: Thank you Dr. McLauchlin, is there anything you want to say to our readers.
Dr. Mac: Thank you for granting me this opportunity to share with your readers. Just one final reminder, children learn
differently; some faster than others and some slower than others, but all children learn. As much as possible we cater to your
child’s learning style. us today or email us for an interview. We are year-round, school starts late July. Call us to enroll. 9108689640
