APPLICATION FOR CHILD CARE LEAVE
SECTION 4 — Parental Leave Top-Up
Parental Leave Top-Up is a monetary benefit provided to AEO Associates on childcare leave, complimentary to provincial
Employment Insurance (EI) benefits. All eligible Associates are encouraged to apply for Parental Leave benefits through EI.
Parental Leave Top-Up is available to all Regular Part-Time (RPT) and Full-Time (FT) Associates that have a minimum of
one year of continuous active employment with AEO. Associates must be eligible for Parental Leave under the provisions of their
provincial labour codes.
During the first week of Parental Leave, employees will not receive anything from Employment Insurance. AEO’s Parental
Leave Top-Up benefit will pay 100% of the Associate’s weekly gross regular earnings for this first week. During the next 12 weeks
(weeks 2-13) of the Parental Leave, EI will pay the employee 55% of their gross weekly earnings. AEO’s Parental Leave Top-Up
benefit will provide an extra 5% of the employee’s gross weekly regular earnings during these weeks. Please see the example
below that outlines the Top-Up payment:

If the Associate leaves AEO either voluntarily or involuntarily within one year of returning from Parental Leave, the Associate is
required to reimburse AEO for 100% of the monies received from AEO’s Parental Leave Top-Up benefit. Any amount owed will
be deducted from the monies otherwise due to the Associate upon termination. If such monies are not sufficient to repay the full
amount owed, the Associate must pay the remainder owed to AEO within 30 days following the date of termination.

I understand that if I leave AEO voluntarily or involuntarily within one year of my return from Parental Leave, I must reimburse
AEO 100% what I receive from the Top-Up benefit. I understand that this will be deducted from monies otherwise owed to me
upon termination. If this amount is insufficient, I agree to pay the remainder owed to AEO under this Agreement within 30 days
following the date of my termination.

*NOTE: EI benefits actually take into consideration the average insured earnings of the Associate. If the Associate’s total insur-
able earnings during the period that is being report on the ROE include bonus payments, these payments will be included by
HRSDC when calculating the Associate’s EI payments. Therefore, the Associate’s EI payments may be slightly higher than 55% of
their normal gross regular earnings. However, for the purpose of this policy, AEO’s Top-Up benefit will be calculated based on gross
regular earnings only, excluding any special payments (e.g. bonuses).
