Darrell Dean Mobley was born in Mobeetie, Wheeler County, Texas on October 20, 1934, the third of four sons to James Thomas and Cannie May Futch Mobley. “Grandpa” passed away on November 29, 2021.
After WWII, the family moved to Dinuba where he entered the 5th grade. It was there that he met his lifelong love and future wife, Evelyn Eaton. They were married in Dinuba in 1954, a year after graduating from Dinuba High.
After graduation, they moved to the Los Angeles area where Dad worked on a survey crew that laid offshore oil pipes in the El Segundo area. In 1959, he and his family moved to Sanger and Dean was appointed Firefighter for the City of Sanger onOctober4,1959. HisfirstmajorfirewasonJanuary16,1960,whentheStarnes Chevrolet Garage burned down at the corner of 8th and N Streets.
After falling in love with his new job, he started taking college courses on his days off and eventually obtained an AA degree in Fire Science. He also took many hours of specialized training and received certifications for EMT, Fire Apparatus Engineer, Arson Investigation, Fire Prevention, Bombs and Explosives, Officers Command, Leadership Supervision, Civil Disorder and Defense Management and received certification from the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
On February 1, 1965, he was appointed Fire Captain and he started the first ever FirePreventionprogramfortheCityofSanger. OnSeptember16,1969,hewas promoted to the rank of Battalion Chief and second in command of the department. In June of 1970, he was appointed temporary Fire Chief, and in May of 1972, he was appointed Fire Chief. Chief Mobley retired in January 1986.
He had lifetime membership awards from the California Fire Chief’s Association, California State Firemen’s Association and Fresno County Fire Chief’s Association, which he and Bill Pennington, Chief C.D.F., started in 1979 and served as the second President. HealsohadthedistinctionofhavingthefirstFireDepartmentParamedic program in the State of California, that transported and billed for ambulance service. On February 27, 1989, he was appointed interim Fire Chief for the city of Selma that lasted for several months.
During his career with the Sanger Fire Department, his most joyous responsibility was to deliver Santa Claus to town each year in the Toyland Parade beginning in 1959 to 2007. Also, Dean was a long-time member of the Sanger Masonic Lodge as well as the Sanger Eagles Lodge.
In Dean’s early retirement he and Evelyn wore out two motor homes traveling across the United States. Spending winters in the warmth of the southern states and travelling anywhere from Alaska to Maine. In the early 1960’s, Dean and Evelyn purchased a small remote cabin in Heart Meadow. He and Evelyn spent their summers at the cabin, building additions, teaching grandkids to shoot BB guns, and fighting off bears. In his cabin community he was known as “Mr. Mayor” and left his generous, giving, and loving spirit in the hearts of everyone. There we still share numerous and warm memories of lifelong friendships.
He is preceded in death by his son Terrall. He is survived by his wife of 67 years and love of his life, Evelyn, his 2 sons, Steve and Kerry (Carrie), and his 3 beautiful and beloved grandchildren, Kollin, Dustin, and Kaitlyn.
Frank Mejorado
Frank was born on July 10, 1942 in Rio Grande City, Texas. He passed away on December 3, 2021. He was 79. His parents Frank and Julia Mejorado moved the family to California in the 1950’s. Frank attended Wilson School and Washington JHS. He graduated from Sanger High School in 1962, where he played varsity basketball and was a 4-year Letterman. A proud accomplishment for him and his family. Because of his love for sports, he coached Little League and adult baseball. He was also a big fan of the Rams, Raiders, USC Football and horse racing.
Frank spent two decades in southern California, where he had a successful career in sales before returning to Sanger.
Frank’s family and friends will miss his sense of humor, welcoming spirit and infectious laugh.
He is survived by 11 children, 22 grandchildren, five great- grandchildren, three brothers and one sister.
Services will be held on Thursday, December 16, 2021. Viewing and Rosary from 8 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. at Wallins in Sanger. Mass at 10 a.m. St. Mary’s Catholic Church, North & Bethel. Graveside to follow at Sanger Cemetery.

Ulysses Samuel Casey, Jr.

Ulysses Samuel Casey, Jr., 93, died on Dec. 4, 2021, at his home in Cayucos, Calif.
Samuel was born on Jan. 30, 1928, in Spaulding, Okla. to Ulysses and Viola Casey. He was the third of seven children. The family moved to the Sanger area when Samuel was 12 years old.
Samuel graduated from Sanger High School, Reedley College, and Fresno State University. He worked for PG&E for 10 years and taught at Washington Junior High for 28 years.
Samuel is survived by his wife of 70 years, Jean Hazelton Casey;
brother, Frank Casey; three children; eight grandchildren; 21 great- grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at Sanger Community Church, 1610 Jensen Avenue, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 18, 2021.
