Retirement can mean di erent things to di erent people. For some, it could mean never having to work again. For others, it
is an opportunity to work at what they love rather than working for a paycheck. Still others could view retirement as a time
to begin volunteering. But one of the more important things to do, once retired, is improve
your health.
One of my friends
recently retired and I asked him if there was anything surprising, he learned once he retired from full time work? He responded without hesitation and said, “I learned I have to nd something to do every- day or else I will just sit around and gain weight”.
You may already know the bene ts of reducing sugar in your diet, maintaining a healthy weight, getting a good night’s sleep, limiting alcohol and reducing the amount of re ned carbs in your meals. All these are bene cial even though they may be hard to achieve. So,another approach to good
teering, having a re- freshment with friends or by participating in an activity.
While out of the house and socializing, try a little exercise. Do whatever you are able. Just a walk around the block in your neigh- borhood might be just the ticket to help you feel more energized.
Lastly, try something di erent. is can stimulate the brain which also needs to be exercised on a regular basis. We are all living longer these days so
a focus on improving your health, once you retire, is a good idea for all of us.
