Five Pirates make all-NYL first team

The Reedley High Pirates had five players named to the all-North Yo- semite League first team in football in voting by league coaches.
Seniors Michael Rios and Devin Magana earned special recognition. Re- ceiver Rios was voted as the league’s Utility Player of the Year after playing wildcat quarterback for the final three-regular sea- son games and helping the Pirates (6-5) secure second place and a berth in the Central Section Division 5 playoffs. He led the team in receiving and picked up 364 of his 400 yards rush- ing during league play.
Tackle Magana re- peated as a first team all- league selection, helping anchor the offensive line. His blocking enabled se- nior Danny Cortez – who received some votes for league Offensive Player of the Year and made the first team on offense — to rush for 704 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Upon returning from Hawaii, the Apaches will be playing in the Clovis Elks tournament where they open against East Bakersfield at 3 p.m. on Dec. 26 at Clo- vis High.

The Emperors Basketball Team
DINUBA HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL
This week's Athlete of the Week is the Dinuba High boys basketball team. The Emperors are 10-0 and captured the
69th Annual Kingsburg Lions Club Classic and the 5th Annual Andrew Bedoya Holiday Classic. In the Holiday Classic title game, Dinuba made a school-record 19 3-pointers, eclipsing the previous record of 16, in a 83-54 win over Monache on Saturday.

Six players from the Sanger High varsity foot- ball team were selected to this year’s CMAC All- League first team. In- cluded in the all-league first team were four of- fensive players and two defensive players from Sanger.
On offense, senior run- ning back Kosi Agina, se- nior wide receiver Dolce Calandra and two offen- sive linemen, seniors Ja- son Lopez and Jesus Fer- reira made the all-league first team.
Agina led the team in rushing this season, rushing for 1009 yards on 90 attempts, scoring 17 touchdowns. He also added 130 yards receiv- ing and one touchdown reception.
Calandra led the team in receptions, catching 37
balls for 643 yards and eight touchdowns.
Making the all-league team on defense were junior defensive end Ga- briel Olmos and junior defensive lineman Jaden Munoz. Olmos led the team in sacks this season with 7.33. He also fin- ished the season with 57 tackles.
Three Sanger Apaches made the all-league sec- ond team. Senior quar- terback Noel Collazo and senior offensive lineman Jonathan Bravo made the second team on offense. Senior linebacker Pierce Jones made the second team on defense.
Receiving honorable mention were junior running back Morgan Privett, senior defensive back Fabian Lopez and ju- nior defensive backs John Pena and Isaiah Becerril.
