Lady Apaches drop close game against Cabrillo
MVT Staff Report
Despite outscoring their oppo- nent 20 to 10 in a fourth-quarter rally, the Lady Apaches ended up losing just their third game of the season on Saturday, falling to Ca- brillo High, 50-48.
Sanger High junior Andrea Cha- pa led the team in scoring with 15 points and was one of three Lady Apaches to score in double digits. Freshman Natali Herrera scored 13 points as she went 3 of 6 from behind the arc and also hauled in five rebounds.
Junior Taylor Roth scored 12 points.
The Lady Apaches’ loss against the Conquistadores started off as a sea-saw battle, with Cabrillo out- scoring Sanger in the first quarter and then Sanger returning the fa- vor in the second. But after both teams went into halftime tied at 24 a piece, it was a lopsided third quarter that made the difference for Cabrillo.
The Conquistadores outscored the Lady Apaches 16 to 4 in the third quarter to take a 12-point lead. Sanger’s fourth quarter rally
was stymied by Cabrillo, however, as the Conquistadores went on to a two-point victory.
Sanger played two games this week, traveling to Fresno on Tues- day to take on Roosevelt before hosting Redwood on Wednesday. Results for those games were not available at press time.
The Lady Apaches will return to the court on Jan. 2 when they travel to Clovis to participate in the Buchanan Holiday Classic. The tournament is scheduled to last un- til Jan. 4.
