A 78-year-old Squaw Valley man was arrested last week after narcotics detectives with the Fresno County Sheriff's Office discovered more than 2,300 marijuana plants with a street value of $2.3 million in his home as part of what depu- ties called a sophisticated, ille- gal grow operation.
Charles Cooper was taken into custody and then cited on charg- es of marijuana cultivation and possession of marijuana for sale, FCSO Public Information Officer Tony Botti said in a news release on Feb. 14.
Narcotics detectives served
a search warrant at Cooper's home in the 34000 block of Bron- co Lane in Squaw Valley. Inside numerous buildings on the prop- erty, they discovered the plants along with a handgun, 10 pounds of processed marijuana and a large amount of cash.
Also found at the grow site was Carbofuran, a highly toxic and potentially fatal insecticide that is banned from use in the United States Botti said that the chemical is known fore severe- ly damaging and environment and killing wildlife.
Detectives removed the plants from the buildings on Cooper's property and de- stroyed the plants.
