Police Department. He said only minor injuries occurred.
However, the trajectory of
the Impala and how the accident unfolded combined to make the event somewhat noteworthy. After striking the curb along Academy on the northeast side of State Foods' parking lot, the Impala lost its passenger-side front wheel.
Duran said the dislodged wheel continued into the parking lot where it hit the automobile of a McDon- ald's patron possibly as he was bit- ing down on his burger.
The Impala, minus the wheel,
continued forward with its exposed rotor and wheel hub assembly dig- ging a furrow into the landscaping along the sidewalk in front of the strip mall.
The Impala then struck the right rear quarter panel of the Focus, which had been entering the Mc- Donald's parking lot. The impact resulted in enough damage to set off all the airbags in the Focus, while the Impala continued in an arc southward.
The Impala finally stopped a couple hundred yards away from where it originally jumped the curb

Mike Nemeth/Sanger Herald
Sanger police chief Silver Rodriguez promoted officer Joe Attkisson to his department's management team Tuesday at the rank of corporal. Attkis- son, who was raised in Sanger, has been with the department about four years. His wife, Kasey, and 10-month-old daughter Kingsley pinned on his new badge at the station about 10 a.m. on Wednesday morning."It's exciting," Attkisson said. "Can't wait to get started." Attkisson is an Army and National Guard veteran. He worked two years as an officer in Ker- man and served in the reserves as a sheriff's deputy. He worked on the family farm for most of his life and as a painting contractor several years. He has a bachelor's degree and is pursuing his masters. "He's put in a lot of energy, effort and time pursuing his education," Rodriguez said. "He's taken on a big responsibility, and I'm sure he's up for the challenge."
