Dinuba High wrestler Daniel Long closed out an outstanding prep career as the senior finished fourth in the 170-pound weight class at the CIF State Wrestling Championships in Bakersfield.
Long finished the season with a tough 3-0 loss to Ryan Cosio of Temecula Valley, but he did improve from a year ago where he was sixth. In the past five years, the Emperors have had at least one wrestler place at the state championships, according to

Isaak Flores’ buzzer-beating off- balance jumper capped off an incredible third as the Emperors outscored the Capitals, 17-3.
The largest lead of the game was 68-47 after a pair of free throws by Rodriguez.
In the Central Section Division III championship game Saturday at Selland Arena against Immanuel, the Emperors never got on track as the Eagles rolled to a 70-39 win for their sixth straight section title.
“Immanuel played really well and I would say we had some nerves to us,” said Schofield. “We never been on that stage before and it seems like they’re there every year.”
Down 12-2 in the first quarter, Dinuba got back into the game on 3-pointers from Rodriguez and two from Magaña to cut the lead to 12-11.
After a basket by Brian-Ortuno
Campbell that made the score 14-13, the Emperors would score three more points in the second quarter as Immanuel went on a 14-3 run to lead 28-16 at the half.
Sebastian Garza’s 3-pointer cut the lead to 30-21 and the Eagles countered with a 9-0 run that was stopped by a basket by Johnathan Calderon. Immanuel closed out the quarter outscoring DHS 11-3 for a 50-27 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
“It probably was one of our worst games of the year,” Schofield said. “Give credit to Immanuel. They played well.”
Dinuba, who shot 34 percent from the floor, had one player in double figures led by Rodriguez with 12 points. He also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds and three steals.

crucial role in the outcome.
“They make a mistake and we don’t
score, we make a mistake and they score,” Quevedo said.
The Cardinals reached the semifinals match with a hard fought 2-1 win over Woodlake on Feb. 16. David Pina and Rafael Saldivar each scored a goal for Orosi.
The two teams had met earlier in the season and the match ended in a scoreless tie.
“We dominated the game and played much better this time,” Quevedo said.
Next season, Quevedo will have some major shoes to fill with a roster of 12 seniors, eight who were starters.
“We lose 12 seniors but you never know who’ll step up,” he said.
