Reedley College Tigers athletics had a busy day on Feb. 10, with four sports play- ing at Reedley College.
The Tigers men’s and women's basketball teams played Merced College, while the baseball team hosted Ohlone College.
The Tigers softball team also had two home games against Santa Rosa and Mon- terey Peninsula College.
RC Basketball
Elijah Clarke, of the Reed- ley College Tigers men’s bas- ketball team, played in his fi- nal home game on Sophomore more Night, scoring 20 points to help lead the Tigers to a 83- 58 win over Merced College on Feb. 10 at Reedley College.
Ruben Parks and Alfredo Jimenez each had 15 points, while Elijah Jefferies had seven.
As of Feb. 13, the Tigers were 9-15 overall and 5-7 in the Central Valley Confer- ence.
The Tigers were coming off a loss to College of the Sequoias 86-46 on Feb. 7 in Reedley.

Evan Sagariballa earned the win on the mound pitch- ing seven innings, allowing four runs and striking out five batters. Sid Lacy recorded the save pitching two innings.

After scoring his first bas- ket, Welsh was interviewed by media at the game to watch him play.
During the interview, Welsh said he was excited to shoot and score and ended the interview by putting his fist in the air and saying: “Go Pirates.”
“You want to cry,” said John Welsh, Jack’s father. “We didn't know anything about it, so it really took us by surprise.”
Travis Ferrell, Reedley High Pirates basketball head coach, said he was thrilled to provide Welsh with a memory he will never forget.
“It was a great moment,” Ferrell said. “To see Jack’s reaction when he scored was awesome, but the excitement that followed when his friends and teammates celebrated with him made me feel very blessed to be a part of his life.”
Ferrell said he appreci- ated Fresno High's coaching staff, who helped in the mo- ment.

Jack also has been a team manager for the Pirates foot- ball team and baseball team's for the past three seasons.
Russell Sauceda, Reedley High baseball head coach, said Jack has been an integral part of the team.
“No matter what your ability levels are, you can still contribute and be a part of the team,” Sauceda said. “He is just a really true Pirate at heart.”
John Welsh was more ex- cited to see the reaction of his son after scoring.
“To see the joy in his face and to experience what all these boys have experienced for four years, he's like any other boy,” John said. “He wants to participate.”
John Welsh also said he hoped that this helps bring awareness to Down syn- drome.
“The National Down Syn- drome congress stated it best then they said 'we are more alike than different.’ All he has is an extra chromosome. He likes doing every single thing a young boy does. And that is what I would like peo- ple to know.”

The Pirates extended the lead to 2-0 five minutes later when Jennifer Gordillo passed the ball to Kiki Suna- moto who scored.
“We made history to- night and beat our rival Hoover for a second time in a row,” Sunamoto said. “We feel excited and confident heading into the playoffs.”
Sunamoto was one of three seniors who were honored be- fore the game for their time with the program. She said the team was really happy to win the title and is looking forward to a bigger goal.
“It was really impor- tant for us,” she said. “We have wanted this since the beginning of the season.
We had our slumps but we came back from them. We kept fighting because this is what we wanted. We want to go further now and get that ring.”
Coach Pizano said he be- lieves the team has all the talent to make a deep run in the playoffs.
“The motto all season has been to make history,” Pizano said. “Eighteen wins on the season is a school re- cord, undefeated in league is history. There is one last thing historic we will try to accomplish and that is to win a Valley championship.”
RHS Boys Soccer
The Reedley High Pirates boys soccer team earned the No. 5 seed in the CIF Central Section Divison II playoffs and received a first-round bye.
The Pirates will travel to play No. 4 seed Dinuba High School on Thursday, Feb. 15.

On Feb. 6, the Eagles took a 28-12 first quarter lead over Dinuba High and rolled to the win.
Nate Kendricks had 25 points, while Kaleb Daglish had 15 points. Shawn Rodg- ers scored 12 points.
On Feb. 7 against Ba- kersfield Christian, Jordan Rodriguez scored at the buzzer to win the game for Immanuel.
Kendricks led the Eagles with 22 points. Daglish had 14 points, and Rodriguez had 13 points.
On Feb. 9 against Kings- burg High, Kendricks had 20 points, six rebounds and seven steals, while Daglish had 13 points. Gavin Lloyd had 11 points and 11 re- bounds.
Immanuel ended the regular season on Feb. 13 against Central Valley Chris- tian High School. No score was available at presstime.
“I'm really happy with the progress we've made throughout league,” Woods said. “We've only played nine games this year with our entire team, so I think we are coming together at the right time.”

“We are going to come ready to play every game and execute our game plan,” Woods said. “I remind the guys every game that teams are going to bring their best against us and we've got to be ready.”
IHS Girls Basketball
Krystale Gutierrez had 23 points and 15 rebounds to help lead the Immanuel High Eagles girls basketball team to a dominant victory over Dinuba High School.
The Eagles beat the Emper- ors 52-28 on Feb. 6 in Dinuba.
Ava Galpin scored 13 points, while Aaliyah Seuell had seven.
Immanuel raced out to a 30-14 lead at halftime and rolled to the victory in the second half.
The Eagles defeated the Bakersfield Christian High Eagles 58-53 on Feb. 7 at Im- manuel High School .
Seuell led the Eagles with 19 points. Gutierrez had 18 points and eight rebounds and Galpin had 17 points.
Immanuel High then defeated Kingsburg High School 64-44 on Feb. 9 at Im- manuel High School.
Gutierrez had 20 points and 14 rebounds, while Gal- pin had 19 points and 11 rebounds. Seuell ended the game with 18 points.
“The team really played tough defense and responded well to any adversity faced,” said Phillip Todd, Immanuel High head coach. “They shared the ball, communi- cated well and put teams away when the opportunity presented itself. The killer instinct and sense of urgen- cy was present in all three games as well. I couldn’t be more proud of the team.”
