Central Section winter sports playoff seedings
Immanuel boys basketball seeded 2nd in Div. 3
Reedley High boys, girls draw double digit seeds
Staff Report
The Immanuel High Eagles — in quest of a sixth consecutive Central Section boys basketball championship — drew the number two seed in this year's Division 3 play- off bracket released on Feb. 8.
Reedley High's basket- ball teams, meanwhile, drew double-digit seeds in the Divi- sion 4 playoff brackets. The Pirate boys (9-16 overall) were
seeded 15th, which gave them a first round matchup on Feb. 13 at No. 2 seed Central Val- ley Christian of Visalia. The RHS girls (14-14) received the No. 14 seed, which meant
a first-round matchup Feb. 12 in Hanford against No. 3 Si- erra Pacific High. Results of the game were unavailable at press time.
Immanuel (18-8) captured
yet another Central Sequoia League championship, but af- ter clinching the title it closed the regular season with road losses against Hanford West and CV Christian. That may
have been a factor in the Ea- gles losing the number one seed to Mt. Whitney (23-5), which had lost to Immanuel, 69-63, in the finals of the Im- manuel Tournament of Cham-
pions on Dec. 1.
Still, the Eagles are in
good shape with the possibil- ity of two home games, start- ing with a Feb. 13 opening round matchup against West Bakersfield. An expected win there would advance IHS to the quarterfinals at 7 p.m. Fri- day, Feb. 15 against the win- ner of No. 7 Tulare Western and No. 10 Mission Oak. The semifinals would be at home on Wednesday, Feb. 20 – the No. 3 seed in the bracket is Sanger High, which beat IHS, 66-59, on Jan. 6. The section fi- nals will be Saturday, Feb. 23,
at Fresno's Selland Arena.

Reedley High School's North Yosem- ite League champion boys and girls soc- cer teams have drawn the number two and five seeds in their respective Cen- tral Section playoff brackets.
The Pirate boys (18-7-2, 9-1 NYL), the reigning Division 2 champions,
will begin defense of their title on Fri- day, Feb. 15, at Sal Gonzalez Field in a 6 p.m. quarterfinal against the winner of the first round matchup between No. 7 Selma and No. 10 Edison. Reedley is on the same side of the bracket as No. 3 seed Sanger, which lost 1-0 to the Pirates in a non-league match on Dec. 6. Tulare Western is the top seed in the bracket.
Reedley's girls (15-7-4, 9-1), who shared the league crown with Hoover, hosted No. 12 Yosemite on Feb. 13 (re- sults were unavailable at press time). The Pirates blanked the Badgers (10-5- 3) by a 3-0 score at the Peggy Renberg

A two-run rally in the bot- tom of the fifth inning made the difference for the Reedley High Pirates in their base- ball season opener on Feb. 8 against area rival Dinuba High.
The rally, which included an RBI from Tristin Garza, wiped out a 1-0 deficit and re- sulted in a 2-1 victory at RHS varsity diamond. Reedley pitcher Oscar Lemus made the lead stand up, throwing a complete game five-hitter while striking out five.
Isaiah Ochoa was the hard-luck loser for the Emper- ors, scattering just four hits.
Dinuba was done in de- fensively by four errors, and scored its lone run in the third inning when Ethan Tobias scored from third base on a sacrifice fly.
Will Gagnon had a double while Jacob Gagnon tripled for Reedley, which is sched- uled to host Kingsburg at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14. The game may not be played as scheduled because of pre- dicted rain in the area into the weekend.
The Pirates also are scheduled to play a Central Valley Diamond Classic game at Sanger High at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20.
Immanuel Tournament scheduled to open Friday
Weather permitting, the Immanuel Baseball Tourna- ment is scheduled to begin with two games on Friday, Feb. 15. Exeter and Kerman play at 5 p.m. at Immanuel Sports Complex followed by the Eagles against Hoover of Fresno at 7:30.
