JENSEN Continued from page A1
Jensen was diagnosed with COVID last week after suffering from health problems in re- cent years. He had been briefly hospitalized, but returned to his assisted- living residence where he passed.
Jensen was inducted into the high school's second Athletic Hall of Fame class in October 2019, even though he was unable to attend be- cause of his health. At that same Hall of Fame dinner, the 1965 and '66 Reedley High champi- onship squads were in- ducted.
Between 1963 and 1972, Jensen-coached teams posted a 95-11 Central Sequoia League record while winning eight league champion- ships. The Pirates also captured five consecu-
tive Kingsburg Tourna- ment titles.
Reedley High's peak came in consecutive seasons, 1965 and 1966. They capped off Valley title runs with victories over Fresno's McLane High; 45-44 in 1965 and 62-56 in 1966. The Pi- rates reached the Valley large schools finals four times (finishing second in 1964 and 1968) during his coaching career.
Speaking on Jensen's behalf during the 2019 HOF dinner was Bob Vasilovich, who was the tournament Most Valu- able Player for the 1966 Pirates squad.
"When Chuck Jensen came to Reedley High School, the culture of Reedley basketball would change quickly," he said. "The tone of the Valley changed as well. Cities to the north, Fresno and Madera, Visalia and Bakersfield
Jerry Isaak, Reedley fire chief and a longtime local history buff, viewed the former Bank of America sidewalk interior access on the south side of 11th Street on Nov. 12. The building's owner, Bill Clark of Fresno, opened the in- terior sidewalk in order to have some electrical work done. The recessed en- trance contained an open area that once housed a manually-operated freight elevator. "I’ve lived here my whole life and never before have seen the doors open," Isaak said.

to the south, and all the smaller farming com- munities soon would find out what Reedley High School basketball was all about."
Jensen was renowned for his no-nonsense coaching style which stressed the fundamen- tals. In addition to Vasi- lovich, players who at- tended the 2019 ceremo- ny were Doug Penner, David Figueroa, Larry McCutcheon, Ron Per- elli-Minetti and Adrian Velasquez.
Freet Ratzlaff said that Jensen taught Eng- lish and coached at RHS while she attended school there and her fa- ther served as superin- tendent.
"He was an excellent teacher and a fantastic coach," she said.
There were no details available on funeral ser- vices.
