First half powers RC football past Siskiyous
By Will Goldbeck
For The Times
Lightning stopped two high school football games at half- time in the Reedley area on Sept. 9.
It struck again less than two days later in the first half of a Saturday afternoon junior college matchup, as the Reed- ley College Tigers jumped out to a 35-0 halftime and went on for a 38-6 win over the College of the Siskiyous Eagles.
The Tigers take a 2-0 re- cord on the road this Satur- day, Sept. 18, to face 0-2 Santa Rosa Junior College. The Bear Cubs fell to Fresno City Col- lege 24-7 on Sept. 11.
It was the ninth straight win for the Tigers, who last week were ranked 18th in the state by the JC Athletic Bureau. The winning streak is tied with Al- lan Hancock for second best in the state, trailing only River- side City College.
Against Siskiyous, Reed- ley recorded twice as many punt return yards in the first half alone than Siskiyous re- corded in total yardage. The Eagles netted only 61 yards of net yards while the Tigers recorded 122 yards in punt re- turn yards.

Reedley College's Devin McGee raced down the left sideline looking for would-be tacklers on his way to a 47-yard punt return for a touchdown against College of the Siskiyous on Sept. 11. McGee's return was the first of two RC punt returns for a touchdown — the other was a 75-yarder by Jaylin Jackson — in the Tigers' 38-6 victory over the Eagles at Reedley High's Sal Gonzalez Field.

yards for six points. After a three and out by the Tiger defense, redshirt sophomore Jaylin Jackson returned an- other punt 75 yards for six points.
The first of two intercep- tions by Joshua Williamson (Tampa, Fla.) got the ball back for Reedley. Five plays later, Solomon found Jackson on a short pass. Jackson broke several tackles on the way to a 41-yard score.
Four different Tigers reached the end zone in the first half explosion. Tamicus Napier (Murfreesboro, TN) capped an 83–yard drive on Reedley’s first possession with a 9-yard touchdown run. Kicker-punter Jorge Rosales

Sanger High quarterback Devin Salcedo (16) celebrated his first quarter touchdown run against Lemoore with a leaping bump with teammate Arturo Betancourt.

Jordan Solomon (Las Vegas, Nev.) took over. Solomon start- ed the 28-point second quarter with a 59-yard scoring pass to Dallas Parker (Victorville).

to get untracked against Lemoore. After an ex- change of punt, SHS methodically marched 69 yards and capped the drive on quarterback Devin Salcedo's 11-yard touchdown run up the middle with just more than minutes left in the quarter.
The Apaches almost went ahead by two scores, quickly forcing a punt and then getting a long run by Hunter Pittman that just missed being a touchdown as he stepped out of bounds at the LHS 18. On fourth and 2 from the 10, Sal- cedo was stopped short of the line to gain and Lemoore took over.
The Apaches defense
remained stout the re- mainder of the half, getting a pair of quar- terback sacks. Markie Botello closed out the 24-minute shutout by picking off a long pass by Ty Chambers on the final play of the half.
But Lemoore came alive to start the second half, taking the kick- off and mounting a long scoring drive. From the Sanger 11, quarterback Ty Chambers found Cory Whitmore on a cross and Whitmore took it in for the score. The extra point tied the score with eight min- utes left in the quarter.

running play inside the LHS 5 was called back on a holding penalty, and Salcedo's pass over the middle was intercepted by Kobe Green.
The Apaches made a final long drive to try to pull out victory in regulation. The rushing game ripped off four first downs before the drive then stalled at the 17, and 35-yard field goal attempt came up short.
Lemoore's final offen- sive series ended with a long pass knocked away near the SHS goal line. In OT, the Tigers' An- drew Hughes Moench scored on a 13-yard run and the PAT made it 14- 7. Sanger's possession reached the end zone on Rodriguez's short run be- fore the decisive conver- sion try was turned away.
