Diane Margaret
(BarDen) nicholson
May 20, 1963 ~ December 12, 2021
Sunday afternoon, December 12th, 2021 our beloved wife, mother, mother-in-law, daughter, sister, mentor, and dear friend went to meet our Lord in Heaven. Diane (Di) was the ultimate positive, courageous and sweet spirited person in so many ways – touching the lives of so many around the world. Di was truly the epitome of a supportive and compassionate caregiver, Lord’s servant, educator, tour & event planner, and selfless community team player. Such the influence and pillar of strength she was, Di’s positive attitude allowed every person she touched feeling uplifted, inspired and loved. Di battled cancer for the past two & a half years, but was surrounded by her family bedside as she transitioned peacefully and free of pain to her eternal
home.
Born May 20th, 1963 in Charters Towers, Queensland Australia to Max
and Jeannetta Barden, Di graduated in 1983 with a Bachelor of Arts in Teaching from Brisbane’s College of Advanced Education. Di first met husband Tom at a New Year’s Eve Aussie baseball/softball event in 1982. Tom continued to return to Brisbane every year inspired by the love of his life & soul mate. They married in 1986 in Brisbane, Australia and also in Rancho Santa Fe, California. They called Brisbane home where they both were engrained in the baseball/softball communities, while also spending time enjoying their other home in Sanger, CA.
Di’s sweet spirit and warm smile will always be remembered, but it was her tenacity, Aussie grit and courage that defined her both on the competitive playing field and more recently in the fight against cancer. Battling through 52 rounds of chemo therapy, countless surgeries, she stood by her mantra ‘Persevere & Fight on another day’; and did so with such great courage and honor in fighting the fight for a caring community around her and afar. She absolutely adored and rallied from the motivating prayers and inspiring messages from all her family and friends here and abroad.
Di’s accomplishments include – Owner & managing partner of Sports Travel Int’l staging sporting events around the world for 35 years while managing over 3,500 athletes on international competition tours in four continents and countless cities; Athletes often referred to her as the ‘Spunky Sheila, Aussie Gamer, & Mum too’... inspired by the catch cry “Aussie, Aussie, Aussie... Oi, Oi, Oi”; A Softball Representative for Brisbane, Queensland & Australia; Life member of the Saints Softball Club as a player and coach... as the club recently stated “There was always a high demand to be in Coach Di’s team as she influenced the lives of many Saints players who have continued to play the game into their adult years”; Brisbane State High Softball & Tennis Rep; Founding member & Office Manager of the Brisbane Bandits professional baseball team; Treasurer of PTA at Toowong Primary school and PTA in Sanger CA; Active volunteer for Fellowship of Christian Athletes at Sanger High, for Young Life Sanger, and supported the Sequoia Church and the Sanger Community Church over the years. While taking a break from international tours & events, she loved her arts & craft hobbies, decorating with her creative and artistic flair.
Di is survived by her husband Tom, daughter Brittney and son-in-law Drew Phillips, son Brandon Nicholson, son Brodie Nicholson and daughter Breeana Nicholson, father Max Barden, sister Judith Young, brother Geoffrey Barden and sister-in-law Valerie Barden and niece Eleanore, nephew Brent Young and wife Cynthia & son Berkley; and preceded in death by mother Jeannetta Barden.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the ‘Nicholson Tribute Fund’ for Sanger High School Senior Scholarships, 2211 Webster St. Sanger CA 93657. A private service will be followed by a public Celebration of Life Memorial Service on January 8th, 2022 at 11:00 am at the Sanger Community Church, 1610 Jensen Ave., Sanger CA. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will also be held in Brisbane, Australia in February 2022.
