will forever remind me of Dick Sheppard.
The following day I drove to Sanger to cov- er their Saturday night Farmer’s Market.
I turn onto N Street in downtown Sanger and parked my car right next to the new Tom Flores mural.
I grabbed my cam- era and realized I had arrived just in time to watch the “Taco Eating Contest” at the Farmer’s Market. I walked up and saw a familiar sight and many familiar faces.
The stage had been set up downtown. On top of the stage, a long table seating about 15 people. Everyone who sat at the table all sat facing 7th Street. Kind of a "Last Supper" formation.
I looked around saw the various vendors, the smell of tacos, ket- tle corn and, again, im-
thing I remembered about him is how much he loved food. We'd go to lunch and I could guess what he was going to order. At the Oasis in Sanger, Dick would or- der the pastrami sand- wich with fries. He'd drink vodka, straight with just ice. At Main Street, he loved the open face roast beef sand- wich. And at the Farm- er's Markets, of course, he loved all the street vendors who showed up with tacos.
Even though Dick has been gone for over six months now, his spir- it is definitely alive and well in our communities.
Farmer’s Markets will forever remind me of Dick Sheppard.
