A 33-year-old Sanger man was struck and killed by a semi truck- trailer while riding his bicycle on rural Jensen Avenue in the early morning hours on July 11.
Alfonso Chavez was headed east on Jensen, west of DeWolf Ave- nue, at about 3:40 a.m. when he was struck by a truck trailer rig driven by 24-year-old Daniel Q. Rodriguez of Corcoran. Chavez was pronounced dead at the scene after be- ing treated by medica; emergency personnel.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Rodriguez was driving the truck east when the bicycle ap- peared to veer left into the path of the oncom- ing truck.
The impact from the collision threw Chavez from his bike onto the roadway, resulting in critical injuries which proved fatal.
The CHP reported that Chavez was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. It's not known if alco- hol and/or drugs were a factor in the accident. Toxociology results were pending.
