gold jacket to signify his HOF status. On Aug. 8, Flores took the stage and made his formal acceptance speech during the nationally televised event.
Flanked by his presenter, Raiders owner Mark Davis, Flores unveiled his bust which will be displayed from now on in Canton. He smiled, stroked the face of the bust and pumped his fist in celebration as the large crowd in atten- dance — including some Sanger resi- dents or natives, based on their brief outburst — roared their approval.
Flores displayed his wit early on in his speech.
"The reason I'm second on the pro- gram tonight, is I'm 84 frappin' years old. I've gotta go to bed at 9 o'clock! Where's my pillow?" he cracked as the crowd burst into laughter and applause. But he quickly turned seri-
ous, saying the enshrinement "means the world to me."
It didn't take Flores long to bring up his Sanger roots, talking about his migration from Mexico to Central Cali- fornia at age 12. He talked of the fam- ily's first house, which had dirt floors and no indoor plumbing. He praised his parents for stressing his education and making sure he participated in many activities, including sports.
When Flores mentioned Sanger in more detail, he drew some hoots from the crowd and again displayed his humor.
"We have people from Sanger here," he said, before drawing more laughter and cheers with "a long way to come, from Sanger. You ever try to get here? It's not an easy place to get to. I've been trying for a long time to get here."

If there is an en- couraging note to the new wave of soaring numbers, it's the deaths have been minimal. Fresno County had just three news deaths for the week while Tulare County didn't report a single new death in the seven-day period.
Still, ICU hospitaliza- tions increased sharply in both counties. In ad- dition to the 11 in Tulare County, 48 patients were housed in ICU.
Jesus said, “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit...fruit that lasts” (John 15:16) In response, First Lutheran Church holds values of Bible Centered Preaching and Teaching, Strong Families, and Godly Servant Leadership. A church where God gives and we receive.
