Down 41-37 midway through the fourth quarter, the Reedley High Pirates girls basketball team went on a 10-0 run to take a 47-41 lead over the Sunnyside High Wildcats.
The Pirates then stopped the Wildcats on the final pos- session of the game to earn a 47-44 victory on Jan. 31 in Fresno.
“We came out with inten- sity, and I think that helped us to gain momentum early in the game,” said Matt Wilkin- son, Reedley High head coach. “We didn't play as well tonight as we have been but we got the win and that is all that matters.”
As of Feb. 6, the Pirates were 8-16 overall and 4-3 in the North Yosemite League.
Facing that 41-37 deficit, Marissa Alvarez hit a three pointer to cut Sunnyside's lead to 41-40.
Reese Kubo then connected on a three-pointer on the Pirates' next posses- sion. This gave the Pirates a 43-41 lead with two minutes left in the game.
After Reedley High stole the ball on the Wildcats' ensuing possession, Precious Hawkins raced to the basket and scored to increase Reed- ley High's lead to 45-41 with 1:25 left.
Hawkins hit two free throws late in the game to ex- tend the Pirates' lead to 47-41.

The Immanuel High Ea- gles girls basketball team was 4-3 in the Central Sequoia League after a loss to the Sel- ma High Bears and a victory over Exeter High School.
The Eagles lost to the Bears 60-41 on Jan. 31 at Im-
manuel High School. Krystale Gutierrez led the
Eagles with 23 points in the loss against Selma High.
Immanuel then defeated Exeter High 61-47 on Feb. 2.
As of Feb. 6, Immanuel was 15-9 overall.

Reedley High School re- cently announced that Daniel Badilla and Precious Hawkins are the Male and Female Athletes of the Month for January.
Daniel Badilla
Daniel Badilla, Reedley High Pirates boys wrestler, has a current record of 27-8 overall and is ranked 37th in the state.
As of Feb. 6, Badilla is un- defeated in the North Yosem- ite League and has helped lead the Pirates to a second-place standing in league.
Badilla earned a first- place finish at the California Classic Tournament and was a state qualifier in 2017.
Precious Hawkins
Precious Hawkins, Reedley High Pirates girls basketball player, averaged 11 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals per game in the month of January.
Hawkins had 20 points, eight rebounds, five assists and five steals in the Pirates' 61-60 victory over Hoover High School on Jan. 26 in Fresno.
As of Feb. 6, Hawkins hads helped lead the Pirates to a 4-3 record in the NYL.
Reedley High is in third place in the league.
The Pirates end the season against Hoover High on Wednesday, Feb. 14, in Reedley.

Hawkins earn honors

It was a dominant perfor- mance for the Reedley Col- lege Tigers baseball team in their home opener on Feb. 1 against Hartnell College.
The Tigers raced out to an early 15-1 lead after four in- nings and rolled to a 15-2 win.
Reedley College then lost to Golden West College 4-2 on Feb. 2 and 8-4 to Bakersfield College on Feb. 3. Both games were played at Reedley College.
As of Feb. 6, the Tigers were 2-4 overall.
On Feb. 1, Evan Sagaribal- la earned the victory, pitching five innings, allowing one run and striking out four batters.
Blake Hernandez, Coo- per Morrison and Kevin Page each had two RBIs.
Ty Bamford, Nick Marti- nez, Luke Juarez and Schyler Sicoli each had one RBI.
On Feb. 2, the Tigers lost to Golden West College 4-2.
Morrison was 2-for-4 with one RBI. Hans Brown, former Immanuel High standout who was playing in his first college game, went 2-for-4 with one run scored.
On Feb. 3, Reedley College fell to Bakersfield College 8-4. Morrison, Bamford and

on Feb. 6.
