Staff Report
A 19-year-old Dinuba woman died Feb. 4 af- ter the car she was driving crashed and flipped into a citrus grove west of Orange Cove.
Two passengers — a 21-year-old Orange Cove man and 14-year-old juvenile girl from Di- nuba — suffered minor and moderate injuries.
The Fresno County Coroner’s Office had not released the woman’s identity as of Feb. 6. The California Highway Patrol reported that the woman was driving a 2002 GMC east on Adams Avenue, east of Crawford Avenue, at about 1:30 a.m. when the vehicle drifted onto the south dirt shoulder of the road. The driver
overcorrected and lost control of the GMC. The vehicle veered across the roadway and over- turned as it crashed into the citrus grove.
The woman was pinned in the vehicle, the CHP reported, and was extricated by emergen- cy workers at the scene. She was transported to Fresno’s Community Regional Medical Cen- ter, where she died from her injuries.
Passengers Juan Solano of Orange Cove and the unidentified 14-year-old girl were transported to Adventist Medical Center in Reedley for treatment of their injuries. The CHP was still investigating to see if alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in the crash.

coordinator for Red Cross Central Val- ley chapter, said that local partners such as Reedley Explorers, the Reedley Lions Club and Reedley Boy Scouts all had a number of volunteers helping out.
Poisall said that one team of volun- teers won the “Golden Smoke Alarm” award for installing the highest number of alarms — 79.
According to Falke, the number of smoke alarms the chapter in general in- stalls continue to grow. Volunteers at the initial Clovis event installed about 200-300
alarms, and the number grew to nearly 600 in Bakersfield.
Falke said that responding to fires and fire victims is the organization’s pri- mary area of assistance.
“Here in the Central Valley we do hundreds of single-family home fires. It’s the largest source of disasters that the American Red Cross responds to per year,” he said. “We provide services like financial assistance and referrals for those who need them.”
The weekend before the event, groups of local Boy Scouts hung fliers on door- knobs to notify the neighborhood of the program. Not every door was opened when
volunteer teams came calling, but officials were pleased with the overall results.
The “Sound the Alarm” program is a national effort by the Red Cross to re- duce home fire deaths and injuries by 25 percent, according to Falke.
“It’s all about trying to make homes safer and ensure that families in the communities we serve are as educated as possible when it comes to fire safety,” he said.
Reedley Fire Chief Jerry Isaak said any smoke alarms left to the department will be available for free for people wish- ing to install one in their residence.
