She shared that helping the veteran with PTSD brought her to tears.
“He said he was in Iraq while Joe was in Kuwait,” she said. “He said ‘your son would have been there to help me in the skies. And now, he’s still protecting me and helping me.’”

FUNDRAISER Continued from page A1
rently, the nonprofit is helping a Valley veteran diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder to pay his car pay- ment, car insurance and his son’sorthodontistbill.
“It’s people like you that help us do what we’re doing. We really appreciate your as- sistance,” Lusk said.
Neta-Elizabeth Newkirk with Gnardog Crossfit said Joe Lusk in her mind was “the most heroic, recognizable and iconic name in Reedley” as it relates to war and its after- math. She said the founda- tion’s message and mission is the main reason that the gym has worked at supporting the fundraiser.
Tuttle was a friend and high school classmate of Lusk,
and both were members of the U.S. Army. Tuttle served a de- ployment in Baghdad, Iraq.
“This event means a great deal to me,” he said.
This is the third year Gnardog CrossFit hosted the event. They raised about $3,000 in the initial “workout” day in 2016, then a little more than $2,000 last year. Money still is being collected for this year, but organizers are hop- ing to reach $3,000 in dona- tions.
Helping veterans is what it’s all about, Susan Lusk said.
