Volunteers still welcome for Wreaths for Veterans event
Staff Report
Volunteers are welcome to assist in the fourth annual Wreaths for Reedley Veterans ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 16, at Reedley Cemetery.
The Reedley High School Naval Junior ROTC will present the colors before the brief ceremony, and white doves will be released in tribute. The
doves are supplied through Lynell Es- quibel with the White Doves of Dinuba. Organizer Susan Lusk said that past donations have helped the organization purchase about 1,700 wreaths, enough to adorn the gravesite of every mili- tary veteran at the cemetery. The next goal of the veterans group is to provide stainless steel stands to display each wreath. Currently, about 700 stands
have been purchased with a goal of having a stand for each wreath in time for the 2018 event.
A Go Fund Me page has been set up by the Reedley Area Veterans to raise money for the stainless steel stands. The site has established a goal of $7,500 to cover the costs. Donations can be made by accessing the site at gofundme.com/reedleyareaveterans.
Lusk said that volunteers are need- ed before and after the event. Volun- teers would pick up the wreaths from the Reedley Armory, where they are stored during the year, and have them ready to place at gravesites during the 10 a.m. event on Dec. 16. The wreaths will be on display until Saturday, Jan. 6.

The four-course dinner, that guests praised as “so de- licious,” was created by the culinary staff of Palm Vil- lage. It began with appetizers
of shrimp cocktail, cheeses, fruits and mini-quiches. The entrée for lunch and dinner was a choice of turkey or prime rib for the evening din- ner.
The Stardusters, a 16-piece Big Band of local musicians, played throughout the evening and inspired re- peated comments of “I loved the music.”
