VALADAO Continued from page A1 (2,798 to 2,789, 50.1-49.9 percent). Valadao won by more than 10,000 votes in his native Kings County, while Cox led by a similar cushion in Kern County.
Valadao declared vic- tory in the race on Nov. 25, and the Associated Press projected him as the winner two days later. The fight for the seat was a contentious one, with millions of dollars in tele- vision advertising spent between both sides. On Nov. 27, Cox said he was not conceding until every vote was counted.
"I’m once again over- whelmed by the Cen- tral Valley’s support and faith in me," Valad- ao said on Nov. 25. "To everyone who fueled this campaign putting in long hours making phone calls, knocking doors and believing in this cause — thank you! I could not have done it without you."
Valadao said that he would not stop fighting for Valley families and bringing more water, as well as work to pass a COVID-relief package.
In his concession statement, Cox said the coronavirus pandemic prevented him to engage in door-to-door personal canvassing.
"I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished in just two short years," he said, pointing out the 27 bills he had introduced and his work on water infrastructure funding.
Election results for the state had a deadline of Friday, Dec. 11, to be officially certified.
