A sign west of the in- tersection of Nebraska and Academy avenues west of Reedley flashed a message to motorists that the intersection soon will become an all-way (four-way) stop to traffic. Intersections at Bethel and Nebraska avenues along with Bethel and Rose av- enues also will be con- verted to all-way stop signs because of rash of accidents including two recent fatal crashes.

Reedley firefighters hosed down appliances that were outside a residence at 1427 E. Manning Ave. that caught fire the afternoon of March 28. It was the same structure that sustained minor damage in a fire that occurred in February 2017.
STOP SIGNS Continued from page A2
at Bethel and Nebraska on Nov. 16. Two brothers from out of state died when the truck they were riding in was struck by a diesel truck that ran a stop sign. Also, a hit-and-run injury crash took place at the intersection on March 3, 2018.
While the Academy and Nebraska avenues site did
not have a recent fatal crash, that site was deemed the most hazardous in terms of number of accidents during 2018.
Officials with the county’s road maintenance and opera- tions division said the all-ways stop signs at the three inter- sections should be in place and operational within two to three weeks. Signs at the intersection currently are up notifying motorists driving through the intersection.

FIRE
Continued from page A1
A large plume of smoke could be seen throughout the city, and traffic along East Manning Avenue was closed off while fire crews battled the flames. The fire was neu- tralized within an hour, and crews continued hosing down hot spots into the afternoon. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
The home was unoccu- pied when the fire broke out, although there were two dogs close by in a doghouse just outside the structure. One remained secure inside the doghouse while the other was escorted from the imme- diate fire scene. There was at least one pet rabbit rescued from the house, and despite fur getting singed he seemed to be OK.
On Feb. 19. 2017, a fire broke out at the residence that was determined to be started intentionally. Ruben Gonzalez Reyes, 67, was ar- rested and charged with mul- tiple counts including arson to the structure.
This photo, sent by community resident Alejandro Martinez Sr. to the Reedley Firemen’s Association, showed
the early stages of the fire breaking out in an outside area just south of the structure. The blaze spread to the house and burned out the inside of the dwelling.
