Modesto started the Nopal Bakery in Reedley in the early 1980's and the family has run the business ever since.
“We are now five genera- tions and we’re still the same owners, same recipes, since my mom and dad," said Jackie.
Jackie said their parents were originally from Mexico but came to the United States hoping for a brighter future.
"They [came to the U.S.] started working with my cous- ins in Orosi and Cutler,” said Candy. “My dad worked with
them for a little while, and after that he decided to be on his own.”
Jackie said her dad want- ed to not only be his own boss, but wanted to find the perfect place to plant some roots.
“So he looked around for a small city where he could build his business and he came across Reedley,” said Jackie. “Whenhecameacross Reedley, at first he hadn’t found anything, buy then he came across a car lot that at the time was called Marten’s
