Is Type 2 Diabetes in seniors a big deal?
By Jim Dueck
As seniors age, type 2 diabetes is one of the diseases that could be reversed. You may be able to do something about type 2 diabetes should you develop it.

feelings, frustrations, what you are going through and when there is a possible ray of sunshine. Friends and family often want to help but do not know how. Lean on trusted family or friends allowing them to give you support. Your church minister could have resources for of you to use to help you work through your grief.
Type 2 diabetes. That
is alarming, and Seniors with diabetes have twice the risk of death of any cause compared to those without it.
If you have type 2 diabetes, your doctor has already told you to eat a healthy diet, lose weight and exercise, right? But have you? Too many seniors have not and are counting on medication to manage their condition. Medication can help
but the other three things, diet, weight loss and exercise are very important and could do more to help you control this condition. But that
Your grief is real. Nobody can truly understand what you are going through, you have to work through this loss and the pain in your own time and in your own way. Time has a way
of making the pain less intense, but the pain of loss may never go away completely. As you work through the grieving process, you slowly come to a new normal.

takes self-control and discipline!
So, what should you do?
To start, look at
food differently. Just remember the initial GPS. Avoid Grains (carbs), Potato’s (carbs), eliminate Sugar.
A person on a
no-sugar diet should
also avoid artificial sugars, including: Splenda, Stevia, Equal, NutraSweet and Sweet N’ Low.
Artificial sugars are a subject of controversy in the diet industry. They are much sweeter than cane sugar but contain
her questions and I miss our special times to visit when I would travel to see her. I have created a new normal and have moved into a comfortable place of

little or no calories.
Some believe that eating artificial sugars can trick the body into thinking it is consuming real sugar. This can increase a person’s sugar cravings, making it more difficult for them to stick to a no-sugar diet.
And do not drink sugar. Sugar-sweetened drinks, such as soda, specialty coffee, sweetened teas, and fruit juices, are one of the most significant sources of added sugars in the diet.
Is Type 2 diabetes in seniors a big deal? In my opinion it is and should be taken very seriously.
Medications can be beneficial together with a good diet, maintaining a healthy weight and exercise. Before making
any changes, always consult your physician so you can work toward the best program for your individual situation.
