The Dinuba High varsity baseball team improved to 3-1 on the season after rallying to beat visiting Sanger, 2-1, on Saturday, Feb. 22.
The Apaches jumped out to a 1-0 lead after Sanger High’s Andrew Herrera drove one into shallow left field for a double, scoring a runner from second base to take the early lead in the first inning.

The junior infielder went 2 for 3 at the plate, accounting for all but one of the Emper- ors’ hits.
Dinuba senior Mi- chael Gomez pitched seven innings in the Em- perors’ victory. Getting the win for Dinuba was senior Josh Escobedo, who came in to relieve Gomez in the eighth in- ning.
For Sanger, pitcher Joey Rodriguez threw seven innings, allowing one run, two hits while striking out eight batters. The loss against Dinuba
was the Apaches’ first loss of the season.
In a Feb. 19 contest at Lemoore, Gomez had two hits, including a home- run, while driving in two runs in a 4-3 victory over the Tigers. Dinuba was tied with Lemoore, 2-2, in the fifth inning when senior Josh Meave drove in two runs on a base hit single.
