Reedley College
Tigers fall
in battle of
unbeaten
By Will Goldbeck
Special to the Times
A second-half come- back fell 12 points short in a battle of undefeated community college foot- ball teams in Los Altos Hills on Saturday night.
The Foothill College Owls jumped out to a 27- 0 lead and then held on for a 32–20 win over the Reedley College Tigers in a battle of the two top American Division teams in Northern Cali- fornia.
After falling behind early as Foothill took advantage of three Ti- ger turnovers, Reedley was forced to go to the air. Quarterback Bub- ba Hickson, who was benched in the first half after losing a fumble (a second lost fumble was credited to the team), threw touchdown pass- es in the second half to River Walker (2 yards), Chris Zavala (6 yards) and Andy Pierre-An- toine (26 yards). Tight end Daniel Baca was Reedley’s leading re- ceiver with five recep- tions for 77 yards.
But Foothill recorded five quarterback sacks for a loss of 35 yards. Without top running back Jamon Chambers,

Sanger gets first home victory with 42-14 rout over Paso Robles
By Rick Curiel
Mid Valley Times
Last year, Sanger es- caped a seesaw battle with Paso Robles with a three-point victory. This year, they undeniably proved who the better team was, as they un- leashed on the Bearcats to run away with a 42-14 victory on Sept. 27 at Tom Flores Stadium.
“It was good to see the kids perform at that level,” said Sanger head coach Jorge Pena. “We got a lot of contributions from a lot of different guys.”
The Apaches (4-1) were coming off a bye week entering Friday night’s non-league home game. Not skipping a beat, Sanger received contribu- tions from all three facets of the game; offense, de- fense and special teams to dominate the Bearcats.
Sanger High built an unsurmountable lead in the first half by scoring four unanswered touch- downs. All four touch- downs came by way of different Apaches, the first on a 2-yard run by se- nior fullback Pierce Jones

Sanger High's Morgan Privett breaks through the line in route to a 53-yard touchdown run in the second quarter of the Apache's Sept. 27 home game against Paso Robles. The junior fullback also capped off a big Sanger first half by taking a late kickoff 82 yards to the house to help lead the Apaches to a 42-14 victory over the Bearcats.
that capped off a 90-yard scoring drive on Sanger’s opening possession.
Then, after the Apach- es forced and recovered a fumble on Paso Robles en- suing possession, Sanger quickly capitalized on a 15-yard touchdown run by senior running back Kosi Agina, who saw minimum play as he continues to recover from an ankle injury.
The Bearcats made a push down the field to- wards the end of the first quarter and threatened to
bring the game to within a score as they found them- selves in Sanger’s red zone. But a second forced fumble by the Apaches as Paso Robles went on fourth-and-three turned into excellent field posi- tion, as Sanger was able to take the recovered ball to their own 47-yard line.
Said Pena of his team’s defense, “That was the biggest difference be- tween this year and last year. We made some big stops on some important drives.”
From there, it took on- ly three plays for Sanger to once again capitalize off the turnover. This time Apache junior fullback Morgan Privett broke free for a 53-yard touch- down run to help give his team a 21-0 lead.
The Apaches were just getting started.
Sanger’s next score came by air, as senior quarterback Noel Col- lazo connected with ju- nior wide receiver Dolce Calandra for an 18-yard touchdown pass. The
two also connected early in the first quarter on what was first called a 69-yard touchdown re- ception. However, the play was called back to the Bearcat's 14-yard line after officials said he stepped out of bounds. The play set up the Apache’s first score of the game.
After Paso Robles scored their lone touch- down of the first half with just 1:30 left on the clock, Sanger retaliated

Immanuel High quar- terback Hector Davila (8) held up the football after scoring one of his two rushing touchdowns against Mendota High during the Eagles’ 45-21 victory on Sept. 27.
27. Immanuel bounced back from a 27-14 loss at Central Valley Christian a week earlier.
Immanuel collected all its points in the final three quarters, finally breaking a scoreless tie early in the second when Davila scored his first touchdown. After Mendota tied the game on a 15-yard touchdown pass, the Eagles took the lead for good when Davila connected with Trace Pires on a 55-yard touchdown play in the final minute of the half.
Tiger stretched the lead to two touchdowns with an 8-yard scoring run. But the Aztecs (1-4), who lost 30-15 at Reed- ley two weeks earlier, closed the gap with a 24-yard touchdown pass.
The Eagles quickly responded when Davila found Winston Williams for a 49-yard scoring pass midway through the quarter. The hosts expanded the lead to 35-14 early in the fourth when Davila ran it in from a yard out.

The Orosi High football team’s upset bid of Caruthers High fell just short as the Cardinals were downed, 41-35, on Friday night at George Millhorn Stadium.
The Cardinals dip to 3-2 over- all and 0-1 in East Sequoia League play while the Blue Raiders, who are No. 1 in Division V, won their fifth straight after a season-open- ing loss to Templeton.
“It was a mirror image of the
Strathmore game, but with a little more offense and less defense,” said Orosi High coach Ben White. “We came out slow.”
Caruthers had entered allow- ing its last four opponents under 10 points per game before the Car- dinals outburst.
“We need that,” said Caruthers coach “That was a good battle. We expect that when we play Orosi.”
Orosi rallied from a 21-7 defi- cit in the second quarter fueled by the Cardinals’ defense. Blue Raiders running back had the ball
knocked out of his hand by Orosi’s John Meraz and Aidan Rodriguez picked up the fumble, racing 46-yards for a touchdown with 4:31 remaining in the half. Caruthers coughed up the football again on its next possession as quarter- back Trenton Babb had the ball knocked loose while attempting a pass. Linebacker Freddi Arciga recovered the fumble and the Car- dinals would score on a short TD pass from quarterback Evan Lara
