Detectives with the Multi Agency Gang Enforcement Consortium (MAGEC) ar- rested 34-year-old Rene Ro- driguez in Monterey on Aug. 30. Rodriguez had been living in the coastal city. There had been a home invasion there, with a shooting between the homeowner and one of the suspects killing the suspect and wounding the homeown- er. The other suspect — later determined to be Rodriguez — fled the scene and had been at large ever since. A retired detective with the Sheriff’s Homicide Unit, who now works homicide cold cases, recently revisited this Rene Rodriguez case. He developed informa- tion that pointed to Rodriguez as the sus- pect who fled the scene that night. The detective was wounded in the confron- tation but later recovered from his injuries. According to FCSO, two armed, masked men showed up at the home and were posing as law enforcement officers as they forced their way into the house. During a later search of the home, FCSO detectives dis- covered more than 100 pounds of processed marijuana which they said the would-be robbers were targeting. Detectives said that al- though Rodriguez was not the one who killed his part- ner Israel Gomez, he can be held legally responsible for his death because it occurred REEDLEY Continued from page A3 p.m. • Disturbance, 600 block of East Myra Avenue, 10:16 p.m. Sunday, September 8 • DUI arrest, 1000 block of East El Dorado Avenue, 12:03 a.m. • DUI arrest, 11th Street and G Street, 2:51 a.m. • DUI arrest, Manning Avenue and Lac Jac Avenue, 3:32 a.m. during the commission of a crime.
