Her future plans are to attend San Jose State University and major in nursing. Her goal is to one day be a pediatric nurse practitioner. Katelyn’s platform is “Child Poverty.” "I chose this plat- form because growing up, I watched my ‘tias’ (aunts) struggle to buy school clothes for my cousins, and I want to help people in that situ- ation." She also believes her connections within the education system which will help her launch her platform. "I would like to be Miss Dinuba to gain ex- periences that will help transform me into the best version of herself," she said. She believes it will also build her pas- sion for helping others. Kyra Cortez Kyra Cortez, 17, is the daughter of Anto- nio Cortez and the late Kristine Cortez. She is a senior at Dinuba High School. Kyra is passionate about Choir and has par- ticipated in the elective since middle school. She also has been a member of the AVID program for three years while attending Dinuba High. She is also involved in community services such as the "Breast Can- cer Awareness Walk" in Fresno, raising funds for the organization in her mother’s name. Her future plans are to attend California State University, Fresno and major in psychol- ogy. Kyra’s platform is “Cancer Prevention.” She chose this platform because her mother passed away from breast cancer when she was 7 years old. Her love for her mother has made her very passion- ate about her message to take care of our- selves. "I would like to be Miss Dinuba because I really want to get to know my community better and be a role model for younger girls because they are our fu- ture," she said. Kyra said she feels being Miss Dinuba would also teacher her many skills and traits she may need for the future.
