Virginia Macias was born June 19, 1927 in Weslaco, Texas and passed away on September 14, 2020 at her home in Sanger at the age of 93. She was the 8th of 12 children. Together with her parents Gumecindo and Juan- ita Gonzalez, she moved to Sanger
California in the late 1940’s. Virginia worked in packing houses and other jobs before she met and married Mario Macias on November 28, 1954. They had three children, Ma- rio Jr., Cynthia, & Theresa. Mario’s work kept him away for most of the year, so Vir- ginia always made sure that her children were entertained by teaching them how to fish, taking them to the drive-in movies, and even drove them to visit her sister, Mary in San Jose. She was always active in all their school
functions from elementary school through high school. Virginia had six grandchildren that she adored. She loved attending their many activities, from dance recitals, cheer competitions, soccer, basketball, softball, baseball, and foot- ball games. She was thrilled to watch two of her grandson’s win a Valley Football Championship, while a cheerleader granddaughter rooted them on from the sidelines. She was a great influence in her grandchildren’s lives always being there for whatever they needed. Even teaching them all how
to drive.
Virginia loved sports! She was so enthusiastic that she
would cheer for the replays. She loved her San Francisco Giants. The entryway to her backdoor was covered in Giant World Series Headlines and posters. She was even lucky to attend Game 2 of the 2010 World Series against the Texas Rangers.
One thing we knew for sure, is that Virginia was a great cook. She loved to bake cookies, cakes, and her signature cornbread. She made her special dishes during the holidays, pumpkin empanadas, tamales, Mexican cookies, and Pe- can tassys. Virginia loved to entertain. She was her happiest when she had people around her table. She loved setting her table with her best china. She also loved to garden. If she wasn’t in her kitchen, she was in her garden.
Virginia was a devoted Catholic and was very active in St. Mary’s Catholic Church. We remember going to her home and watching her iron the robes that the Priest wore during mass. Our mom loved to go to church early in the morning during the week to water and put fresh flowers on the altar. Virginia was a very active member of the Altar Society. She loved to help run the boutique during the St. Patrick’s Day Spaghetti Dinner. She loved visiting with all the people who came to this big event. She also helped run the Bingo booth at the church carnival as well. She was always compassion- ate, giving, and loving. Definitely, one of a kind. She will always be remembered in church as the beautiful, elegant, and classy lady in the hat.
She had 14 great grandchildren and one on the way that she loved very much. Not all got a chance to know her be- cause of their young age, but she loved them the same. Many of her nieces and nephews, would admit that she was one of their favorites. She was always ready to have fun, she brought the party with her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gumecindo and Juanita Gonzalez; and 9 brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her children, Mario Macias Jr. & his wife, Karen, Cynthia Eirich & her husband, Eddie and The- resa Mimms & her husband, Rick. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Rachelle Maldonado-Lopez & her hus- band Fernando, Marissa Maldonado & her wife, Angela, Kenneth Maldonado Jr. & his wife, Christine, Stephen Mal- donado & his wife, Melissa, Heather Heng & her husband, Anthony, and Mason Eirich & his wife, Melissa, her sister, Vera Fuentes & her husband, Louie; and her adopted sister, Ventura Nunez & her husband, Amando; 14 great grandchil- dren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are under the direction of Wallin’s Sanger Funeral Home, 1524 9th Street, Sanger, CA 93657.
