Leah took home the top prize in the Junior Division for her history presentation on The Berlin Wall, entitled “Three Tragic Decades of Separation.” As the top recepient in the category, Leah also won the Stan Barnes Memorial Scholarship of $500.
“We were very happy two kids were awarded money for their hard work and efforts,” Thornburg expressed.
Also making the top three in the Junior Individual Division was Jefferson sixth grader McKayla Soto, who did a presentation on the French Resistance of 1941.
All of the students making the top three in their categories will be moving on to compete at the State level. The State competition will be held from May 10 through May 12 at William Jessup University in Rocklin, Ca.
