Body found in southwest Reedley is identified
MVT Staff Report
The Fresno County Sheriff's/Coroner's Of- fice this week positively identified a man found dead just west of Reed Avenue near Immanuel High School on Oct. 18.
The victim was iden- tified as 59-year-old John Barrera, who was homeless but staying in the Reedley area. Tony Botti with FCSO said that Barrera's family had been notified of his death.
Foul play is not sus- pected. Authorities said there were no visible external wounds.
Barrera's body was discovered shortly be- fore 9 a.m. on Oct. 18, about 30 feet west of the roadway. He was face down next to a cov- ered pipe in front of a fenced city well when a passerby discovered his body and called Reedley police.
Law enforcement guarded the body until an official with the cor- oner's office arrived to conduct an examination.
It was unknown where Barrera's family lives. Anyone who may have additional informa- tion on Barrera can call Reedley Police at (559) 637-4250.

rounded and made entry into the home alongside Reedley Police.
“The US Marshals team was doing surveil- lance on this house for a male suspect that had a felony outstanding war- rant for child molesta- tion,” said Ediger.
Ediger added that of-
ficers from Reedley as- sisted the Marshals and had no knowledge of the case. It is not known how the man knew the residents of the home.
“They notified us [Reedley Police] when they came into town if we could assist with the perimeter cover-
age while they tried to make contact with the house.”
He said officers were able to obtain the owners consent and upon entry discovered the man had locked himself in a rest- room.
Several businesses and schools in the area
were put on lockdown while police broke the window to the restroom & made entrance into the home. The man was found inside the rest- room bleeding but still breathing.
The man was trans- ported to a local hospital, his condition is unknown.
