RHS football loses to Roosevelt in NYL play

It has been nearly two years since the Reedley High Pirates girls volleyball team suffered a loss in the North Yosemite League.
That was a 3-0 loss to Hoover High School on Oct. 27, 2016.
Since then however, the Pirates have been the class of the NYL.
Reedley High extended its NYL winning streak to 14 matches overall in the NYL streak after a 3-0 win over McLane High School on Sept. 25 at Reedley High School and a 3-0 win over Sunnyside High on Sept. 27 in Reedley.
Set scores for the Pirates' win over McLane were 25-11, 25-13 and 25-5.
Set scores for the win over Sunnyside were 25-7, 25-9 and 25-22.
During Reedley High's 14 game NYL winning streak, they have also gone 42-0 in the sets.

It was a tough night for the Reedley High Pirates football team in their North Yosemite League opener against the Roosevelt High Rough Riders.
The Pirates fell behind 21-0 at halftime and were un- able to recover and lost to the Rough Riders 35-0 on Sept. 29 at Sal Gonzalez Field.
The loss dropped Reed- ley High to 2-4 overall and
0-1 in the NYL.
The Pirates host the
McLane High School High- landers on Friday, Oct. 5, at Sal Gonzalez Field.
It will be Homecoming Night for Reedley High.
McLane High enters the game 4-2 overall and 0-1 in the league. The Highlanders are coming off a 46-6 loss to Sunnyside High School on Sept. 28 in Fresno.

Eagles girls tennis beats Exeter in CSL contest

The Immanuel High Eagles girls tennis team defeated Exeter High School 6-3 on Sept. 25 in a Central Sequoia League showdown at the Immanuel Sports Complex

The Immanuel High Eagles girls tennis team de- feated the Exeter High Mon- archs 6-3 on Sept. 25 at the Im- manuel Sports Complex.
Immanuel then defeated Dinuba High School 5-4 on Sept. 27 in Dinuba.
The Eagles then played Selma High School on Thurs- day, Oct. 4, in Selma.
“We are really fine tuning aspects of the ladies games and working on strategies for different opponents,” said Tyler Toews, Immanuel High Eagles head coach. “Exeter offers a variety of opponents and that allows for us coach- es to work on tailoring these skills for each player. The girls split 3-3 in singles just like in the first round and we came back hard in doubles, sweeping the Monarchs. We have some powerful doubles teams and we plan on push- ing them to continue to get better.”
The Eagles and Monarchs split the six singles matches, before the Eagles swept the three doubles matches to earn the win.
Grace Goertzen, Immanu- el High's No. 1 singles player, defeated her opponent 6-,6-0. Hannah Friesen, the Eagles' No. 3 player, won her match 62-,6-3, while Janelle Wood, the No. 4 singles player, won 6-2.6-0.
Goertzen and Noelle Rob- bins, Friesen and Wood ad Kate Enns and Hunter Kri- eter were the doubles teams for the Eagles.
“I’m looking forward to the continued progress the team is going to make and the success that will come with it,” Toews said.
IHS Girls Volleyball
The Immanuel High Ea- gles girls volleyball team lost to Central Valley Christian 3-0 on Sept. 24 in Visalia.
Set scores were 25-21, 25-
14 and 25-15.
The Eagles were led by
Danielle Jefferies who had 10 kills. Jefferies also had 10 digs, while Olivia Barsoom had nine. Brooke Hatch had 10 assists.
The Eagles then defeated Kingsburg High School 3-0 on Sept. 27 in Kingsburg.
IHS Football
The Immanuel High Ea- gles football team had a bye on Sept. 29.
The Eagles will play Lib- erty High of Madera on Oct. 5 at the Immanuel Sports Com- plex.
It will be Homecoming Night for Immanuel High.
It will also be the final regular season home game for the Eagles.
Immanuel is currently 3-3 overall. Liberty will enter the game 5-1 overall and coming off a 42-14 win over Yosem- ite High School on Sept. 29 in Madera.
Tigers stay unbeaten

After falling behind 24- 21 to the Cabrillo College Se- ahawks with 11 minutes left in the fourth quarter, the Reed- ley College Tigers football team was in jeopardy of losing their first game of the season.
That's when the Tigers' of- fense kicked it into gear scor- ing 10 unanswered points in the final four minutes of the game to defeat the Seahawks 34-21 on Sept. 29 at Sal Gonza- lez Field.
Reedley College is cur- rently 5-0 overall and 1-0 in the Golden Coast Conference.
“I felt really confident go- ing into the game because of the sophomore leadership we have on this team,” said Eric Marty, third-year Reedley College head coach. “I am so proud that the team stepped up and made plays.”
The Tigers have a bye on Oct. 6. They will play Gavilan College on Saturday, Oct. 13 at Reedley High School.
With the game tied at 24- 24, Randall Johnson, Reedley College quarterback, connect- ed with Andy Pierre-Antoine on a 14-yard touchdown pass that gave the Tigers a 31-24 lead with 17 seconds left in the game.
Johnson ended the game go- ing 19-for-29 for 385 yards and two touchdowns. Johnson also had two rushing touchdowns.
Pierre-Antoine had four catches for 77 yards and two touchdowns. Nicholas Clarke had five catches for 121 yards.
Lazavier Moore led the Reedley College defense with 11 tackles, including one sack. James Caradine also had sev- en tackles.
“He is a big time player. He is a big physical inte- rior presence that is hard to
block. He is has grown over the weeks,” Marty said. “I am so proud of the way the team has brought in and grown and they have invested in the pro- gram.”
After neither team was able to score in the first quar- ter, the Tigers jumped out to a 7-0 lead with 13:11 left in the second quarter when Johnson scored on a 6-yard run.
Cabrillo College an- swered right back scoring on a 47-yard touchdown pass that tied the game at 7-7 with 11:55 left in the first half.
Reedley College respond- ed to take a 14-7 lead with 9:05 left in the second quarter when Johnson connected with Pierre-Antoine on a 46-yard touchdown pass.
